Chief of the Portuguese Navy expresses need for new Frigates submitted 15 hours ago by PyroSatanToday, the Chief of the Portuguese Navy made a statement to the Government officially requesting the need for a new, modern Surface Combatant to replace the aging Karel Doorman-Class and Vasco da Gama-Class Frigates which are past forty years of service.Of course, with the current condition of the Portuguese Economy, this can not be fulfilled. We must hope that the European Union pulls through with the bailout and economic plans we have levied recently at the EU Congress.https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalPowers/comments/5sp6u3/event_chief_of_the_portuguese_navy_expresses_need/

Portuguese Navy Modernisation Program submitted 20 hours ago by PyroSatanThe Portuguese Navy is faced with an aging fleet of warships, with our newest Combat Vessels being built in 2010. (The two Fleet Submarines of the Navy) The Chief of the Portuguese Navy, Admiral Joao Dias, has been faced with a serious issue; The current fleet of Karel Doorman and Vasco da Gama-Class Frigates are becoming more expensive to maintain than it would be to just buy new Surface Combatants. So, the Portuguese Navy has been allocated $1.1 Billion to modernise the fleet to a level where the waters from Madeira to the Azores to Beira to Algarve can be safe from any exterior naval threat. The Portuguese Navy is looking to receive bids for new Surface Combatant Vessels to replace our Karel Doorman Class. We will also be funding the development of a new indigenous Frigate type like the Vasco da Gama-Class to be built in either Germany or France. We are also in need of a new Fleet Replenishment Ship to replace our current Fleet Oiler, Bérrio. We express interest in the Italian Fleet Replenishment Ship, Etna, though we also are open to other offers. Since the economic leveling-out of 2016, we feel that Naval Modernisation must be given serious thought.https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalPowers/comments/5sujwc/event_portuguese_navy_modernisation_program/
