The amphibious transport ship Zr.Ms. Johan de Witt will still be at sea for a few days before the ship goes to shore even earlier than
expected. A period of maintenance and the Midlife Update will follow in November.

Of the three ships that are put on hold due to a lack of money (Urk) and staff shortages (Van Speijk and Johan de Witt), the amphibious transport ship is the last one still sailing. Mine hunter HNLMS Urk already went against the side in December and Hr.Ms. Van Speijk has not been sailing since the end of April.

On Monday the Johan de Witt left the Nieuwe Haven for a week on the North Sea and the roadstead of Den Helder. The ship is engaged in various exercises on board and training for, among others, marines and sailors. An NH90 also made use of the platform.
Before the summer
A spokesman for the Navy confirms that this week is this year's last voyage from the landing platform dock (LPD). That is even earlier than expected. At the end of April , a report in the Defense newspaper announced that the Johan de Witt would not complete the time for maintenance, but that the personnel would disembark earlier. But then 'after the summer' was mentioned, so that now appears to be happening before the summer.
The crew of the Johan de Witt will move to other ships. The ship, like the entire navy, was faced with a serious shortage of personnel, especially technicians.

HNLMS Van Speijk was earlier against the side. Rik Woertman was the oldest officer of the M-frigate
MLU.
In November, the ship, which was put into service in 2007, will go into maintenance and be modernized. Work on this Midlife Update (MLU) has already started in 2018 in preparation. At the beginning of this year, the contract was signed with Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding and RH Marine.
As Hr.Ms. Johan de Witt has been modernized in 2022, the ship is equipped with a new Thales NS100 radar (to be precise the NS106), new networks, new sports facilities, a modernized infirmary, renewed bridge and Joint Operations Room, as well as new weapon systems.
