Portugal está procura de um navio similar em conceito ao Karel Doorman Joint Logistic Support Ship, mas de um tamanho mais reduzido:
Portuguese Navy's top priority is the
acquisition of a new auxiliary replenishment oiler (AOR) to replace its in-service AOR, NRP Berrio. Requirements will be broadly based around a ship displacing around 15,000-16,000 tonnes, with a small crew, a helicopter deck, and some support to enable the projection of marines for special operations.
"We're also looking at the possibility of [providing facilities] to support humanitarian and disaster relief operations," Vice Adm Mendes Calado said. "I've seen an example of a good ship with space to install a containerised hospital to support disaster operations. Possibly the Portuguese Navy will try to do something similar."
