Ukraine Orders Corvettes And UCAVs From Turkey For Ukrainian Navy

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has ordered new Turkish-made corvettes and unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAV) from Turkey. They are being procured for the Ukrainian Navy to enhance security in the Black and Azov Sea regions.

According to the statement issued on 15 December 2020, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Andrii Taran signed the documents during a visit to Ukraine by Ismail Demir, the head of Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB).

These are primarily projects designed to radically strengthen the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy to enhance security in the Black and Azov Sea regions.

The statement did not disclose what systems specifically were ordered. The financial value of the contracts was not provided.

Incidentally, this announcement comes one day after the U.S. rolled out sanctions on the SSB over the Turkish purchase of the Russian-made S-400 surface-to-air missile system.

To help improve the capabilities of its naval forces, Ukraine has sought to purchase corvettes from Turkey’s MILGEM project. Ukraine has worked to rebuild its Navy amid tension with rival Russia in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. Four corvettes of this type have already been exported by Turkey to Pakistan.

About MILGEM project / Ada-class corvettes

The Ada-class, as part of the MILGEM project, represents the first national ship building project staged in Turkey. Its goal was to build a modern littoral combat ship with indigenous anti-submarine warfare and high-seas patrol capabilities, extensively using the principles of stealth technology in its design.

First ship in class TCG Heybeliada (F-511) was launched in September 2008 and commissioned with the Turkish Navy in September 2011. Fourth and final ship of the class TCG Kınalıada (F-514) was commissioned in September 2019. This final corvette successfully test fired the new ATMACA anti-ship missile in November last year.

The class is designed to embark a 10-ton helicopter with platform, hangar and extensive service and handling equipment. Helicopter operations can be performed at sea state 4. A MILGEM corvette is designed to accommodate 106 sailors including the flight crew. The total accommodation is 108 including sickbay.

Milgem-class are multipurpose corvettes able to conduct a wide a range of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air warfare.

Navantia construirá un patrullero de altura para la Marina Real de Marruecos.

Navantia ha logrado un contrato con la Marina Real de Marruecos para diseñar y construir un patrullero de altura que supondrá un millón de horas de trabajo para los astilleros de la bahía de Cádiz, cerca de 250 empleos durante los próximos tres años y medio.  En estos mismos astilleros también se construirá el Buque de Acción Marítima de Intervención Subacuática (BAM-IS) para la Armada española.

El contrato ha sido anunciado este viernes por la ministra de Hacienda, María Jesús Montero, durante una visita al astillero de San Fernando en la que ha estado acompañada por la presidenta de Navantia, Belén Gualda. El proyecto ha contado con el apoyo institucional del Gobierno y su éxito abre la puerta a la contratación de otras unidades similares, lo que implicaría más horas de trabajo y más empleo para la industria naval.

Marruecos comunicó en abril las especificaciones del contrato para la construcción del patrullero, por el que se interesaron astilleros de varios países. Navantia presentó su oferta en agosto y un equipo de la compañía se desplazó a Marruecos para negociar los aspectos técnicos y comerciales.

Desde el pasado septiembre, los contactos entre Navantia y la Administración de la Defensa Nacional marroquí han sido permanentes para adecuar todas las especificaciones técnicas del buque a los requisitos de su Marina y cumplir la hoja de ruta acordada en la negociación.

El contrato anunciado hoy por la ministra de Hacienda incluye el diseño del buque. Una vez finalizados los trabajos de ingeniería, comenzará su construcción. Navantia ya suministró patrulleros y una corbeta a la Marina Real de Marruecos en los años ochenta y este contrato retoma esa senda.

El patrullero de altura se inserta dentro del Plan Estratégico de Navantia. Es un buque muy demandado en el ámbito internacional, con las consiguientes oportunidades de exportación a otros países.

Navantia estudia también diferentes opciones comerciales para sus astilleros de Cartagena, donde actualmente se construye el submarino S-80, y Ferrol, donde se construirán las fragatas F-110 para la Armada Española. Este último programa se enmarca en lo establecido en el Plan Estratégico de la compañía, que apuesta por consolidar este astillero como polo de referencia mundial en el diseño y construcción de fragatas de última generación y como catalizador del Astillero 4.0, vital para asegurar la sostenibilidad de Navantia a medio y largo plazo.

Este Patrulha oceanico que vai ser construido em Espanha para a Marinha  Marroquina, com cerca de 1500 tons de deslocamento, custará apenas, 140/150 milhões euros. :mrgreen:

The Egyptian Navy has taken delivery of the corvette Port Said (ENS 976) — the first warship 100% built in Egypt.

Port Said is the second Gowind 2500 corvette ordered by the Egyptian Navy and built at Alexandria Shipyard under a transfer of technology agreement with French defense contractor Naval Group.

The handover and flag-raising ceremony took place at Alexandria Shipyard in Alexandria on 6 January 2021.

The ship will be carrying out combat and other missions as part of the Egyptian Navy fleet.

Launched in 2018, Port Said is the second Gowind 2500 corvette ordered by the navy.

The first ship from the batch, ENS El Fateh, was completed by Naval Group in France and delivered to the navy in September 2017. The third unit, Al-Moez (981), was launched in May 2019 and the fourth, ENS Luxor (986), in May 2020.

Displacing 2,600 tonnes, the ships are crewed by 65 persons — including the helicopter detachment — and can reach a speed of 25 knots.

With a length of 102 meters, the corvettes are equipped with the SETIS combat system and the Panoramic Sensors and Intelligence Module (PSIM) in addition to a 76mm Oto Melara gun, vertical launch cells for MBDA’s MICA missile and torpedo launchers.

Versão naval do Harop, muito interessante, para quem quer uma boa capacidade de atacar alvos em terra a longa distância a partir de navios, que desta feita não precisam de ser fragatas, destroyers ou submarinos (um simples OPV teria capacidade para tal), com mais alcance e menor custo que um Harpoon ou um NSM.

Indonesian Navy’s Submarine Fleet Expands with Tupi-class and Riachuelo-class submarine


The Indonesian Navy is in the process of expanding its submarine fleet, considering both new and used submarines for its plan. The original requirement for 12 submarines by 2024 as stipulated under the blueprint has now been reduced to eight. Indonesia has announced that it is in the advanced phase of negotiations with the Brazilian government regarding the purchase of used two Tupi-class (German Type 209/1400) diesel electric submarines from the Brazilian Navy. The Indonesia Navy has two Cakra-class (German-made Type 209/1300) and three Nagapasa-class (South Korean-made Type 209/1400). It also has an existing contract for 3 more Nagapasa-class with South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

Officials from Indonesia’s defence ministry are in discussions with a consortium led by French shipbuilder Naval Group for a possible order of the Riachuelo (Modified Scorpene)-class submarine, separate industry sources close to the talks have reported with Janes. The discussion is the latest development in what has been a series of sporadic talks between Indonesian defence planners and Naval Group since 2016, when Jakarta first indicated its interest in the Scorpene 1000 vessel type for its naval requirements. Besides technical discussions, the talks with Naval Group and its consortium also touched upon financing options and opportunities for technology transfer agreements between French and Indonesian defence companies.


In 1984 Brazil contracted with Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft for six Tupi class submarines to the Type 1400 subvariant of the U-209 model, the first built in Kiel and the other five in Rio de Janeiro. The Tupi class boats operate from Moncangue island’s Base Almirante Castro e Silva across the bay from Rio. The Tupi-class submarines, which have been in service with the Brazilian Navy since the late 1980s, are in the process of being sold by Brazil as it starts to commission tht Riachuello-classsubmarines to replace them. Indonesia is among a few countries interested in the submarines, with other countries being Argentina and Peru

The Riachuelo class is a 1,800-tonne Brazilian Scorpène-class submarine built for the Brazilian Navy by DCNS in Cherbourg and ICN in Itaguaí, Brazil. The submarines, four of which were ordered for the Brazilian Navy in 2009.are larger in length, tonnage and cargo capacity compared to the original French project. The Brazilian version are 75 m (246 ft) and 2,000 tons, compared to the original Scorpènes that are 61.7 m (202 ft) and 1,565 tons. It is capable of deploying F21 heavyweight torpedoes and MBDA Exocet SM39 Block 2 Mod 2 missiles via 533 mm tubes, and is capable of diving up to 350 m. The first-of-class was launched by Naval Group in December 2018, while the final boat is scheduled to enter the water in 2022.

Fala-se muito em racismo, fala-se muito em perdoar dívidas dos Palop, fala-se muito ir a correr para proteger os cidadãos dos países do palop. Agora quando é para gastar dinheiro vai-se a correr para outras nações.

The Angolan Navy is operating HSI 32 high-speed patrol craft acquired from France’s CMN under a larger 495 million euro deal.

In September 2016, UAE-based Privinvest announced it would establish a shipyard in Angola and supply several naval vessels under a 495 million euro deal. Privinvest has facilities and shipyards in a number of countries including France (Constructions Mecaniques de Normandie – CMN), Germany (German Naval Yards Kiel) and the Middle East.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the 2016 deal included three HSI 32 patrol craft, which were delivered in 2019, and a long range offshore patrol vessel and a short range patrol vessel from France. The patrol vessels are believed to be Vigilante-1400 and Vigilante-400 models built by CMN. Photos recently emerged confirming the HSI 32s in Angolan service.

The HSI 32 is also in service with Mozambique, which in September 2013 signed a controversial 200 million euro deal with CMN to build the three Ocean Eagle 43s, three HSI32 interceptors and 24 fishing vessels over a two year period. The HSI 32s were delivered to Mozambique from 2016.

The HSI 32 has a length of 32.2 metres and a width of 6.4 metres. Crew complement is 12. The type is made from aluminium for light weight and agility. Sensor options can include a surveillance radar, electro-optical sensors and a satellite link for transferring images and other data.

The HSI 32 interceptor can reach speeds of up to 43 knots and can undertake patrols for three days, with a range of 800 nautical miles at 12 knots or 580 nautical miles at 33 knots. Weapon options include a remotely operated 20 mm cannon and two 12.7 mm machineguns. A 4.8 metre RHIB can be launched from the back of the boat. Crew complement is 12. These vessels are ideal for anti-piracy, anti-terrorism and anti-smuggling missions.

Angola has been expanding its small navy in recent times and in December 2015 ordered new equipment from Italy, including two patrol boats, radars and six helicopters (four AW139s and two A109Ks). The 7.3 million euro patrol boat order was placed with Whitehead Sistemi Subacquei, part of Finmeccanica (Lenoardo).

The Angolan Navy’s most recent delivery was four Super Dvora Mk III patrol craft, which were ordered from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in 2015 and delivered in 2016. A Cessna Citation jet was delivered in 2017 after being modified to maritime patrol configuration in Israel (this included fitment of a Seaspray radar). De facto, não se entende porque é que não adquirem navios patrulha de construção portuguesa, como os recém adquiridos pela GNR. O mesmo se aplica a aeronaves, já que podiam perfeitamente ter adquirido aviões de patrulha marítima de fabrico português. Os Viana do Castelo são claramente um desenho superior e, certamente, mais versátil que está coisa francesa..
