New Combat Support Ship for the Royal Netherlands Navy arrives at Damen
The Combat Support Ship "Den Helder" arrived at the Damen Naval shipyard in Vlissingen-Oost on 13 December. The ship successfully completed its first sea trials from Romania to the Netherlands. The Dutch shipbuilder will now proceed with the final outfitting ahead of delivery set for Spring 2025.

Official Handover of DSS Galatea to the Royal Netherlands Navy

Today, we officially handed over the DSS Galatea to the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder. With this, the Navy gains a temporary patrol vessel, which will already be deployed tomorrow in support of the NATO summit.

The arrival of the Galatea provides the Navy with additional flexibility, allowing other naval vessels to focus on their respective missions.

Following the summit, the so-called “state vessel” will be tasked with detection, escort, guidance, and monitoring operations.
Equipped with advanced technologies—including drones for surface, underwater, and aerial surveillance—the ship is capable of monitoring maritime activity in the North Sea and inspecting critical underwater infrastructure such as cables and pipelines.

We are proud to have rapidly delivered this additional capacity for the (military) readiness of the Netherlands, in close collaboration with Fugro.

According to the ministry, the addition of the Galatea will free up naval warships for other tasks, particularly the defence of NATO territory.
