The KSS-III Batch-II will be Canada's 'Iron Fist' and will bring unparalleled offensive capabilities. The Canada's Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense are said to have visited the shipyard and met the Korean president.

4,000 tons of the KSS-III Batch-II is armed with the latest supersonic cruise missiles, long-range cruise missiles, mobile sea mines, ballistic missiles, and the new AIP, lithium-ion battery, sensors, and combat systems. It's interesting that the Batch-III nuclear-powered submarine program was confirmed just days after the KSS-III Batch-II was built. It seems like only yesterday that the KSS-III Batch-I was delivered to the Navy. Even the KSS-II is still a decent, modern, medium-sized AIP submarine.

At any rate, It's great to hear news of the KSS-III Batch-II for the ROK Navy, the Canadian Prime Minister's visit, and the Batch-III all at once. South Korea and Canada may even build nuclear-powered submarines together in the far future. I hope things work out well with Poland, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Peru, Morocco, and Greece.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Heavy Industries is currently working with other countries on submarine projects. Another major advantage of the KSS-III Batch-II is that it boasts the highest habitability of any non-nuclear-powered submarine in existence.

Sinceramente, acho que o Canadá vai optar pelo U-212CD… é um caçador furtivo, pensado para operar no Grande Norte, que é o que o Canadá precisa. O KSS-III é um SSG, verdadeiro submarino de ataque, com aqueles silos VLS todos para mísseis balísticos e de cruzeiro, o que não é bem o que o Canadá quer. Seria um nice to have, enquanto o U-212CD é melhor no must have. Posso estar enganado, não seria a primeira vez, mas pelo que ouvi falar na comunidade de defesa canadiana, é o que parece que vai acontecer…

Já aqui referi várias vezes que 1400-1500 Tons seria o mínimo aceitável para Portugal. Comprar submarinos costeiros num país com a topografia do nosso mar é uma estupidez pegada… só se for mesmo para poupar dinheiro. Espero que bom senso prevaleça e aquele rumor que o Subsea7 aqui descreveu de vender os dois U-209PN e comprar três ou quatro KSS-III, nem que fosse sem os VLS, se confirme.

Eu também preferia… ou até a nova versão do U-209NG com AIP adicionado… o problema é que os U-214 novos andam na casa dos 800-900 milhões cada. Os KSS-III com VLS andam na casa dos 700-800 milhões, portanto o HDS-1500 (que não tem VLS) não deve ficar por mais de 500-550 milhões… além de que com esta nova colaboração com os coreanos, a possibilidade de incorporar tecnologia nacional deve ser bastante maior. Qualquer dos cenários para mim está bom.

Ui... os KSS-II estão bem mais caros do que eu pensava. Mesmo tirando o custo dos VLS, não devem ficar por menos de 850-900 milhões... entretanto, li ontem que os numeros do A26 derraparam de novo, o que levou a um atraso ainda maior no programa...
