Como é que é possível que em 2024 aquela que será provavelmente o melhor navio de guerra para o combate aos VANT seja uma Corveta?

C-Dome System Demonstrates Combat Strength as Israeli Navy Thwarts Hezbollah UAV Attack.
2 Aug, 2024

Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems announced successful interceptions of hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the past week. According to a video released on the company's official X account on August 1, 2024, the C-Dome, a naval adaptation of the Iron Dome system, played a pivotal role in neutralizing threats to Israel's economic waters.

On July 29, 2024, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that an Israeli Navy warship equipped with the C-Dome system successfully intercepted and shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched by Hezbollah, a Lebanese terror group backed by Iran, while on patrol off the coast of Haifa. The interception took place near the Karish gas field, located in the northern part of Israel's exclusive economic zone (EEZ), according to IDF officials on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

The C-Dome system, renowned for its rapid response and precision targeting, intercepted two separate UAVs attempting to infiltrate and potentially disrupt critical economic zones. These incidents occurred in quick succession, highlighting the system's readiness and reliability in high-stakes situations.

Rafael's video showcased the system's state-of-the-art technology, emphasizing its "time-critical capability" as a key factor in the successful operations. The C-Dome's ability to quickly identify, track, and destroy aerial threats has cemented its reputation as a formidable tool in Israel's defense arsenal.

The C-Dome System is an advanced air defense solution specifically designed for naval applications. It offers comprehensive protection against a wide array of aerial threats, including coastal and maritime dangers, land-based missiles, cruise missiles, surface-to-surface rockets, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). As an adaptation of the proven Iron Dome technology tailored for maritime use, the C-Dome provides a ship-based defense mechanism characterized by its small footprint, quick reaction capabilities, and agility, making it an ideal choice for modern naval warfare.

The C-Dome ensures full hemispheric protection and is highly effective against saturation attacks by engaging multiple targets simultaneously, even when they approach from different directions. This compact defense system can be seamlessly integrated into various types of naval vessels, from small ships like Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and corvettes to larger naval ships. It is currently deployed on the Israeli Navy's SAAR 6-class corvettes, demonstrating its versatility and adaptability.

Key features of the C-Dome include its ability to provide robust area defense against saturation attacks, engaging threats from multiple directions simultaneously, and ensuring comprehensive coverage of defended zones. Its compact size and lightweight design allow for integration into various ship types without imposing significant space or weight constraints. Moreover, the system is cost-effective, activating only when a threat is recognized, thus conserving resources while maintaining readiness. The C-Dome features an open architecture, enabling simple integration with a ship's combat systems and search radars, and it remains operational in all weather conditions, providing consistent protection across diverse maritime environments. It is available in a Mission Module configuration, enhancing its adaptability to different naval operational requirements.

In terms of specifications, the C-Dome System is composed of three main components: an extensively proven combat interceptor, a modular and maintenance-free vertical launch unit, and a command and control unit that integrates seamlessly with the ship's combat management system. The interceptor is less than 4 meters in length and weighs under 100 kilograms. The launcher can accommodate more than ten interceptors, and the entire system weighs less than 4 tons. It boasts a high single-shot kill probability of less than 90%, which highlights its reliability and effectiveness.

The extensively proven combat interceptor is derived from the Iron Dome system, which has already achieved close to 5,000 successful interceptions, showcasing its reliability and combat-tested performance. The modular, maintenance-free vertical launch unit provides flexibility and ease of maintenance, ensuring the system's long-term operational readiness. Meanwhile, the command and control unit is seamlessly integrated with the ship's Combat Management System, allowing for efficient coordination and response to threats.

Overall, the C-Dome System represents a continuously evolving, combat-proven defense solution that offers unparalleled protection for naval forces operating in diverse maritime environments. Its cutting-edge technology and versatile design make it a critical asset in modern naval warfare, safeguarding economic and strategic interests with precision and reliability.

Rafael's announcement is a key element for military analysts and defense experts worldwide to discover the C-Dome's performance as a benchmark for future developments in naval defense systems. As UAV technology continues to evolve, the demand for effective countermeasures is expected to rise, positioning the C-Dome as a leading option for countries looking to enhance their security infrastructure.

O mais inacreditável é que é extremamente eficiente e barato:

Perhaps most notably, the Tamir interceptor costs as little as $40,000 per missile.

Naval Analyses

Over the past decade, the 🇮🇱 #IsraeliNavy has significantly bolstered its capabilities, expanding its submarine fleet from three to five (soon to be six) and increasing its corvette fleet from three to seven in just three years. Additionally, it introduced two logistic support/landing ships, all without retiring a single vessel. This raises intriguing questions: How was this expansion achieved? Were any Sa'ar 4.5-class FACMs quietly retired without public disclosure? And where did the Navy find the approximately 450 additional crew members needed to operate these new vessels?

Israel Orders Five New Corvettes

The Director General of the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD), Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir, approved the procurement agreement today (Thursday) at the IMOD’s headquarters in Tel Aviv. Under this contract, the IMOD will acquire five advanced “Reshef” missile ships from Israel Shipyards, with a total value of approximately $780M (NIS 2.8B).

The acquisition received approval from both the Ministerial Procurement Committee and the Joint Committee of Defense Budget in the Knesset. Under the agreement, Israel Shipyards will produce and supply the ships to the Israeli Navy over approximately six years, with an option for additional vessels in the future. Manufacturing the ships in Israel will strengthen security and ensure continuity of production and support for the IDF.
