The Bulgarian Navy has taken delivery of its first domestically built warship in a century, marking a major milestone in the country’s naval modernization. The vessel the first of two Multipurpose Modular Patrol Vessels (MMPVs) was constructed by the German company NVL Group in partnership with Bulgarian shipyards, reviving national naval shipbuilding capabilities after decades of inactivity. Designed for patrol, surveillance, and coastal defense, the ship features modern sensors, modular mission systems, and the ability to support NATO operations in the Black Sea. Its arrival significantly enhances Bulgaria’s maritime security as the region faces heightened tensions and increased Russian naval activity. The second vessel is expected to follow in the coming years, further strengthening Bulgaria’s fleet.
