Israel destroys Iran’s stealth-tracking radarThe Israel Defense Forces have released footage showing an airstrike on an Iranian Matla-ul-Fajr radar system, a mobile VHF-band radar designed for early warning and airspace surveillance.
The strike was part of ongoing Israeli operations targeting Iranian air defense infrastructure.
According to the IDF, the radar was destroyed in a precision airstrike carried out by Israeli fighter jets. The system, which includes antenna arrays, control units, and communication equipment mounted on a trailer, was designed to provide mobility and resilience in electronic warfare environments.
Iran first introduced the Matla-ul-Fajr radar in 2010, with reported detection ranges between 300 and 480 kilometers and altitude coverage of up to 30 kilometers, depending on the variant. The system is equipped with electronic counter-countermeasure (ECCM) capabilities and can cycle through 100 VHF frequencies to resist jamming efforts.
Mashregh News, a state-affiliated Iranian outlet, previously reported that the Matla-ul-Fajr 2 variant—produced by SAIRAN in partnership with Isfahan University of Technology—operates as a 3D solid-state radar. Due to its VHF band operation, it is capable of detecting low radar cross-section targets such as cruise missiles and F-35 stealth aircraft, though with reduced accuracy at shorter ranges.
The Israeli strike on the Matla-ul-Fajr radar comes amid a broader campaign aimed at degrading Iran’s strategic air defense and early warning network. Over the past several days, Israeli forces have carried out sustained attacks against Iranian missile batteries, radar installations, and command centers under the banner of Operation “Rising Lion.”
The destruction of the radar system further highlights the Israeli Air Force’s ability to penetrate Iranian airspace and carry out high-value strikes with precision.
