The most bizarre part of Viktor Orbán's speech in Tuscany this year was not about the present, or even the near future, but looking ahead a generation and giving a task to the next generation.
He said that the time would come when people from outside Europe would not be allowed to enter Hungary, even if they came through the Schengen border. He said that the time would come when more than half of the inhabitants of Western European cities would be of non-European origin, so steps must be taken to prevent racial mixing. He made it quite clear that the time may come when it will not be necessary to check at the border whether someone is an EU citizen or legally resident in the EU, but rather what their origin is.
The separation of law and birth status was a trend in Europe in the 1940s, when masses of people were deprived of their rights on the basis of origin. It was the logic used to exterminate Jews in the territories controlled by the Nazis, but it was also the logic used to expel Hungarians from Czechoslovakia after the war, or Germans from Hungary. The logic, even if only in terms of aliens, must, according to Orbán, return to Central Europe within a generation.
According to the Prime Minister, European races can mix with each other, but non-Europeans cannot mix with the people here. In order to achieve this goal, more children must be born, otherwise Hungary and the Carpathian Basin will be "stolen" from us.
About the war
According to Orbán, the Russia-Ukraine war will certainly last until the end of 2024, because that is when the next presidential elections will be held in America, and peace can only be achieved by a Russia-U.S. agreement, and the current U.S. president is not interested in peace.
Orbán believes that the West has miscalculated, that its sanctions policy and its arming of Ukraine is bad policy. Orbán says the Russians cannot be defeated.
He said the Russians have made it clear that they want a guarantee that Ukraine will never become a member of NATO. The West did not respond to this demand, and that is why the war broke out. He said that if Trump and Merkel had stayed in office, the war would not have broken out - implying that they would have reached an agreement with the Russians.
He said Russia knows that NATO is stronger than it is, so the scare that if Ukraine falls, the Russians will move further west is not true. What he did not mention was that Russian pre-war demands included the withdrawal of arms and troops from countries that have joined NATO since 1997.
Orbán said that Russia, the US and China have benefited from the war so far, but that the EU has been weakened by it because energy has become more expensive.
He implied that one of the main purposes of the war and the accompanying Western sanctions policy was to allow the US to sell more energy to Europe, taking over the Russian market.
He presented the struggles between the great powers with detachment, essentially equating Russian and US ambitions, and stressed that moral considerations were not even worth examining. In contrast to other EU leaders, he does not see the war as a clash between democracy and authoritarianism, but as a clash between two energy-selling countries over the market.
He used Russian political terminology twice in his speech, calling the Westerners "zapadnyks" (zapad means West in Russian), unusually for a Hungarian speaker, and included a quote from Lenin in Russian.
This was the first time he had reported on the real cost of overheads, something we have never heard from a government politician before.
He claimed that last year it cost 296 billion forints to provide electricity and gas to the population at reduced prices, but this year it would have cost 2051 billion forints. It was therefore necessary to limit the amount available at the reduced price.
He blamed the weakening of the euro for the weakening of the forint.
The West will collapse by 2030, that's when we have to take over
Orbán said the euro, the EU's single currency, would collapse in seven and a half years, because by then the tension between southern and northern member states over debt management would become intolerable. By then, we should be a net contributor to the EU, and it will be possible to take control at the European level in a time of crisis, if Hungary (and the region) is strong enough. This will require military and economic development and a consistent rejection of 'gender foolishness' and migration.
Now, however, he wants to make a deal with the European Commission (in order to get the money from there).
He also thinks the V4 alliance is in a bad way
Orbán believes that the Czech and Slovak governments have become too Westernised, which in his view is tantamount to putting their horses in the burning barn, as he sees Western civilisation as living its last hours. And the Poles are too much listening to their hearts in war rather than their brains, as is the Hungarian government, which does not want to get involved in the war.
Orbán has been saying for well over a decade now, in Tusványos and elsewhere, that he believes that US hegemony is over, that Western civilisation is finished, because homosexuality and the mixing of races are bringing destruction to Western Europe. He said these things again, but this time he also set a specific date for the fall of Western Europe, 2030.
