The Russian Airborne Troops are ready to assist Syria in countering terrorism,  if such a task is set by Russia's leaders, Commander of the Airborne Troops Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov told reporters on Tuesday.

"Of course we will execute the decisions set forth by the country's leadership, if there is a task at hand", Shamanov said in response to a Syrian reporter's question about the readiness of the Russian Airborne Troops to render assistance to Syria's government in its battle against terrorism.

Shamanov noted that Russia and Syria have "long-term good relations". "Many Syrian experts, including military, received education in the Soviet Union and in Russia", Shamanov added.

British SAS special forces go into Syria to kill ISIS chief

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ayaff.html
Citar
British special forces have taken part in a ferocious battle to kill a Syrian-based Islamic State commander - even though Parliament has yet to approve any UK 'boots on the ground' in the country.

The crack SAS troops joined US forces on the mission in May this year. To keep their participation a secret, they wore US uniforms and carried American weapons.

The elite Special Air Service soldiers were flown into the country's Deir ez-Zor governorate in a US Osprey aircraft before carrying out a daring reconnaissance mission near the compound of top IS financier Abu Sayyaf.  (...)

Eventually, the SAS troops confirmed Sayyaf's presence and provided US commanders at their Central Command is Qatar with a detailed tactical picture, including numbers of enemy fighters, their pattern of behaviour and weaponry .

The IS compound was then attacked in a series of strafing runs by US jets ahead of the arrival of more US aircraft carrying 50 heavily armed troops from Delta Force, the US equivalent of the SAS (...) Fifteen IS fighters are believed to have been killed, including Sayyaf - who was shot dead by Delta Force.

No British or US troops were wounded. Sayyaf's wife was also captured and a Yazidi slave girl was rescued. But when the US Defense Department released a statement on the raid, the vital role played by the SAS was ignored (...)
