For better understanding what is it all about
Some day people will realize we've been completely manipulated and lied to by our ruling elites. Why the lies about Iraq wasn't enough to open eyes is hard to understand. The fact that we are now allied with and protecting Al Qaeda's Syrian franchise the al Nusra Front should be the tipping point.
Syria has been a US regime change target for more than a decade. "Regime change, by the way, is patently illegal under Int'l Law, which is never even discussed anymore.
Syria was on the "hit list" since within days of 9/11, when orders came down from the Sec. Def Rumsfeld and deputy Wolfowitz (a diabolical deep state strategist) to attack and topple 7 middle east gov'ts, Syria being one.
Check the list; only Syria and Iran are left to go.
In Syria, the US and allies have been conducting psychological operations and covert activities to foster dissent there for, literally, decades, but those efforts were advanced in the 2006 timeframe, as revealed by the wikileaks cable, among other sources.

The actual cable is here:

A principal reason for the drive to regime change Assad was to destabilize Syria in order to weaken Hezbollah after it gave Israel a bloody nose in Lebanon that year.
Those efforts had a goal of fomenting not only discord in Syria, but fear within the government of violent anti-government "color revolution" activities. It worked, and prompted the unnecessary police violence against the initial sacrificial lamb protesters.
The reality known to Syrians and others, but not most westerners, is that police were killed in Deraa within the first days of those "peaceful pro-democracy protests" protests. Shot by professionals. Within days, army units moving to Deraa were professionally ambushed and killed. Did you read that in our free press?
You can read it in these ConsortiumNews articles; a site run by Robert Parry, who broke the Iran-Contra story and has been ostracized, but not quieted, as a result of that cardinal sin of revealing the inherently evil conduct of our ruling elites.

The Syrian "Civil War" has from the get go been a virtual invasion of US & western proxy armies. The CIA has been arming, funding, training and assisting the mythical "moderate Syrian rebels" since 2011. Turkey, Qatar and the Saudi's do the same to their groups.
These facts are proven in the declassified DIA Memo of 2012, released thanks to Judicial Watch's FOIA suit.

It shows that (a) the US and allies supported Al Qaeda in Iraq, Salafists and the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria and Iraq (the "Opposition"), (b) that the Opposition was trying to control eastern Syria and Western Iraq maintaining contact with the Turkish border to "help prepare safe havens under international sheltering for command centers ala Libya (c) that there was a possibility of "establishing a Salafist Principality in eastern Syria, and this is exactly what the Supporting Powers want...."
That "Salafist Principality" is called the Islamic State Caliphate; its command center is Raqqah. How much more clearly do you want the DIA to state what was happening?
Here is former DIA Director Lt. Gen Michael Flynn interviewed about the memo, where he says that the creation of ISIS and the Caliphate was a "willful decision."
