Problemas com retenção de pessoal na RCAF:

Exodus from Canada’s spy plane unit (alert5, 10 de Dezembro de 2024)

Canadian special forces spy plane unit sees staff exodus
(9 de Dezembro de 2024)
Citação de: David Pugliese / Ottawa Citizen
A lack of leadership and training opportunities sparked an exodus of most of the specialists needed to operate a new fleet of military surveillance aircraft, an internal Canadian Forces investigation found.

Canadian special forces command had six sensor operators that had been assigned to work the various high-tech systems on the CE-145C Vigilance aircraft.

But those personnel in Trenton were left largely on their own, with no training program or overall direction from the special forces headquarters in Ottawa or their home unit, 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron, in Petawawa, according to records viewed by the Ottawa Citizen.

"There is perceived and real lack of support from both the unit and HQ," noted the internal military investigation completed in May 2023. That, combined with the continual delays in the delivery of the new planes, prompted four of the operators to either leave the military or transfer out of special forces. "The impact of losing 4 (sensor operators) is going to be felt for some time," the investigation concluded.

While the numbers of sensor operators are small, their role is highly specialized. They operate the surveillance equipment on the planes which are capable of intercepting cell phone and other electronic transmissions as well as tracking individuals on the ground.

Canadian pilots take to the skies with RAF on Poseidon training mission
(18 de Dezembro de 2024)
Citação de: alert5
Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) pilots have begun intensive training with the Royal Air Force (RAF) on the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. This collaboration marks a crucial phase in the RCAF's transition to the advanced platform, replacing the aging CP-140 Aurora fleet. The training is taking place at RAF Lossiemouth, a key hub for Britain's Poseidon operations.

The decision to acquire the P-8A Poseidon came in November 2023 when the Canadian government finalized a deal with the United States for up to 16 of the multi-mission aircraft. This procurement addresses the growing challenges of supporting the 40-year-old CP-140 Aurora fleet which is becoming increasingly expensive to maintain and less relevant against modern threats. The Canadian government, after thorough analysis, deemed the P-8A as the only currently available aircraft capable of meeting all operational requirements for the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMMA) project. The new platform will provide enhanced anti-submarine, anti-surface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

(...)

RAF Lossiemouth's 42 (Torpedo Bomber) Squadron is at the forefront of this collaborative effort, providing essential training to RCAF crews. For several months, Canadian aircrew have been working with RAF personnel to gain experience and skills on the Poseidon. Four Canadian personnel completed their initial training flights on the P-8A in December 2024, marking a key milestone in the RCAF's integration with the UK Poseidon force. These training flights are designed to provide a thorough understanding of maritime protection and the technical aspects of the P-8A. This partnership with the RAF is vital for the rapid and safe transition from the CP-140M Aurora to the P-8A Poseidon. The training and operational exposure gained will allow the RCAF to incorporate best practices and lessons learned. Upon successful completion of the course, Canadian personnel will join the RAF Poseidon frontline squadrons to gain further operational experience. RAF Lossiemouth currently hosts three Poseidon squadrons. The station has also been involved in other collaborations with overseas personnel, including training Norwegian Poseidon crews and hosting German Poseidons to enhance Europe's maritime security.

"It was great to experience the first flight after months of training," said Captain Darren Kirk of the Royal Canadian Air Force. "The instruction received at 42 Torpedo Bomber Squadron has been excellent. The instructors are invested in the students and enable us to achieve our highest potential," he added.

Início das operações SAR do CC-295 no Canadá:

The Kingsfisher takes over .... Finally!
(1 de Maio de 2025)
Citação de: Scramble
The Airbus CC-295 Kingfisher has finally assumed Search and Rescue (SAR) duties at 19 Wing Comox, British Columbia. Over three years ago, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) retired its last CC-115 Buffalo from operational service with 442 Squadron after an impressive 55 years.

While the RCAF and Airbus worked on certifying the CC-295 for SAR operations in Canada, two SAR-equipped C-130H Hercules transport aircraft from Greenwood (N.S.), Trenton (Ont.), or Winnipeg (Man.) were dispatched to Comox to provide SAR coverage for Canada's rugged West Coast and the vast Rocky Mountains. As of early January 2025, the Hercules aircraft have returned to Winnipeg.

Starting 1 May 2025, the CC-295 Kingfisher officially became the fixed-wing SAR response aircraft at 442 Squadron, alongside the CH-149 Cormorant helicopter, with aircrews ready to respond 24/7, year-round. Sufficient CC-295 aircraft are now available to fully take over the mission on Canada's West Coast. The introduction of the CC-295 into Canadian service has been overseen by Comox-based 418 Squadron.
