Novo operador do C-295:

First Irish Air Corps C295MPA delivered
(27 de Junho de 2023)
Citação de: Scramble
On 27 June 2023, the first C295MPA Maritime Patrol Aircraft for the Aer Chór na hÉireann (IAC, Irish Air Corps) was delivered to Baldonnel.

The aircraft flew straight from the Paris Air Show to Ireland and had all markings taped over during the ferry flight. The only visible marking was the construction number of the aircraft, which is 211. Upon arrival the MPA was stripped of the tape and revealed its new identity and serial (284).

On 13 December 2019, the IAC signed a contract with Defence and Space for two C295MPA Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The new aircraft will operate primarily in the Maritime Defence and Security (MDSO) role and will replace the current CN235M-100 maritime patrol aircraft, which have been in service since 1994 and amassed over 20,000 flight hours per aircraft.

In January 2023, the Irish Department of Defence (DoD) paid a deposit to secure the purchase of a third Airbus Defence & Space (CASA) C295MW. This order is an addition to an already existing order for two C295 aircraft in the Maritime Patrol variant. The newly ordered C295MW is a cargo variant.

O Corpo Aérea Irlandês vai substituir o seu Learjet por um Falcon 6X:

Irish Air Corps Learjet replacement
(21 de Dezembro de 2024)
Citação de: Scramble
On 18 December 2024, the Irish government announced that they placed an order with Dassault Aviation for a brand new Falcon 6X VIP jet.

The Falcon 6X will replace the Learjet 45, serial 258, which has been in service with the Irish Air Corps' 102 Squadron since 2003. The Learjet has primarily been used for Presidential and Ministerial transport, along with VIP transport and air ambulance missions.

In recent years, the Learjet has experienced frequent technical issues, reducing its serviceability and reliability. These problems have resulted in the Prime Minister being stranded in Brussels and Ministers missing overseas appointments at the last moment.

In late 2023, a search for a replacement was launched, and the Falcon 6X was selected. This aircraft represents a significant improvement in capabilities. It can carry up to fourteen passengers, compared to just seven in the Learjet, and boasts a greatly enhanced range of 5,000 nautical miles, compared to the Learjet's 2,000. This increased range will reduce the need for fuel stops during long-range missions. The new jet, costing €53 million, is expected to be delivered in December 2025.

A Irlanda encomendou 4 novos H145M para o Corpo Aéreo Irlandês.

Deal reached for new helicopters at a cost of over €90m
(30 de Dezembro de 2024)
Citação de: RTE
The Department of Defence has signed a deal to buy four new helicopters aimed at boosting the capabilities of the Air Corps.

The light-utility helicopters will be used for pilot training to support Defence Forces operations and the Garda Air Support Unit.

The contract has been awarded to Airbus Helicopters UK Limited at a cost of €91.7m plus VAT and its anticipated delivery of the new Airbus H145M helicopters will begin in early 2027.

(...)

The Tánaiste and Minister for Defence said the helicopters "will not only significantly boost the capacity of the Defence Forces pilot training programmes, but also enhance intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and light combat capabilities of our Air Corps."

(...)

The H145Ms will be "equipped to satisfy a wide range of missions including maritime security missions, utility missions, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) and light attack missions."

It is anticipated the helicopters will "greatly improve the operational support provided to Special Operations Forces - the Army Ranger Wing - as well as providing broader support across the Defence Forces training and operations."

The department said the present ageing EC-135 helicopters, being used by the Air Corps, have reached the end of their useful service life.

The Defence Forces Chief of Staff said the procurement of the Airbus H145M helicopters is "another important step on the journey of transformative change of our Defence Forces."

Lieutenant General Seán Clancy said "The new light multi-role helicopters, proven in their service in other militaries, will not only enhance the Irish Air Corps rotary capability but will also serve as a critical enabler to the Army, Naval Service and Special Operations Forces."

Irish Air Corps EC135 replacement

On 30 December 2024, the Irish Air Corps (IAC) announced that they are to receive four Airbus H145M helicopters. The new helicopters are acquired as replacements for the EC135P2+ utility helicopters currently in service with 302 Squadron.

The IAC operates two EC135s, serial 270 (c/n 0425) and serial 271 (c/n 0431). Both were delivered in November 2005. The EC135's current missions are pilot training, army support, air ambulance, VIP & military transport and general utility.

The new H145M will bring with it an improvement over the capabilities of the EC135. The H145, which is derived from the BK117, is larger than the EC135 and can carry up to nine passengers, compared to seven for the latter. It also has an increased maximum takeoff weight and longer range.

The IAC also announced that the H145M will be equipped with ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) that will enable it to carry out related missions. One of these will be armed support, something the EC135 is not equipped for.

The new helicopters will also be used to train pilots for the Garda Air Support Unit (GASU). GASU is part of the Police and currently operates two EC135s. EC135T1 256 (c/n 0149) was delivered in December 2002. This was followed by EC135T2+ 272 (c/n 0478), which was officially handed over in January 2008.

These two EC135s are also slated for replacement. Under a separate contract, two H145s will be acquired. The first of these, serialled 287, was first noted at Airbus' Donauwörth facility in September 2024, with test registration D-HBTS applied.

First delivery of the H145M to the IAC is expected early in 2027.
