Operational Capabilities: Proponents highlight the helicopter's advanced features, such as fly-by-wire controls, a crashworthy composite airframe, and fully integrated mission systems, which are well-suited for demanding naval environments and reduce pilot workload.
Negative Experiences (Unreliable and Costly)

Norway: In 2022, Norway terminated its NH90 contract and demanded a full refund due to continuous delays, an inability of the manufacturer to meet contractual obligations, and low availability rates. The fleet averaged only about 700 flight hours annually against a requirement of 3,900 hours.

Australia: Australia retired its fleet (MRH-90 Taipan, which included naval support roles) well ahead of the planned date, citing ongoing concerns with poor reliability, high maintenance costs, and frequent groundings.

Sweden and Belgium: Both nations have also expressed dissatisfaction and have initiated plans to replace or retire their NH90 fleets due to operational challenges and high costs. Sweden fast-tracked the purchase of Black Hawks as a stopgap measure after delays with the NH90s.
