RNZAF seeks new jet transport aircraft(2 de Janeiro de 2024)
The New Zealand Ministry of Defence (MoD) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to replace its ageing Boeing 757 fleet by the end of 2027.
The procurement process has been fast-tracked due to escalating maintenance costs and reliability issues with the current aircraft. Of the two Boeing 757s in service, one has already been withdrawn, and both—over 31 years old—have faced widespread criticism following a series of recent breakdowns. The 757s are operated by 40 Squadron Ki Nga Hau e Wha (To the four winds) at RNZAF Base Whenuapai near Auckland.
The Ministry stated that the government is seeking "commercially available, off-the-shelf Boeing 737 Max 8 or Airbus A321 narrow-body aircraft." The tender requests detailed information on aircraft type, delivery timelines, military registration, ownership pathways, and deposit terms. Lessors are required to include purchase options in their proposals. Notably, the scope of this tender is limited to the acquisition of the aircraft and engines; related services such as maintenance, support, or ancillary offerings are excluded. The submission deadline is 23 January 2025.
