F-35 launches Joint Standoff Weapon
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter conducted the first test launch of a Raytheon AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) on 23 March, the Pentagon's F-35 programme office announced on 31 March.
The C-model test aircraft, CF-05, released the 1,000 lb air-to-surface guided glide bomb from an internal weapons bay over the US Navy's (USN's) Atlantic Test Ranges, said Commander Ted Dyckman, the test pilot who flew the mission.
The JSOW is a joint USN-US Air Force (USAF) programme and can be launched from six additional combat aircraft in both services.
