The Syrian Kurdish militia YPG said on Thursday its forces taking part in an operation  to capture the city of Manbij from Islamic State had returned to their bases after the mission was successfully completed.

The US-led coalition against Islamic State separatedly said the "main element" of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alliance, which includes the YPG, had moved east across the Euphrates river,  which they had crossed in order to capture Manbij.

U.S. vicepresident Joe Bidden said on Wednesday that Syrian Kurdish Forces must return to the east of the Euphrates into territory they hold after seizing Manbij. Turkey has demanded that Kurdish Forces withdraw. (...)

The German military is preparing for a possible withdrawal of six Tornado reconnaissance jets from Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base given Ankara’s continued refusal to allow German lawmakers to visit the facility, Der Spiegel magazine reported Thursday.

The German Defense Ministry gave no details about its plans.

“We would like to continue the mission from Turkey, but there are alternatives to the base in Incirlik,” the magazine quoted a ministry spokesman as saying.

The Social Democrats, junior partners in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition government, are now insisting that Germany should withdraw its aircraft and troops from the base given Turkey’s refusal to allow German lawmakers to visit the base.

“The German government must immediately find other bases for the German soldiers,” the magazine quoted Rainer Arnold, defense spokesman for the Social Democrats in parliament, as saying.

Incirlik Air Base  is an air base of slightly more than1335 ha, located in the İncirlik quarter of the city of Adana, Turkey. The base is within an urban area of 1.7 million people,10 km  east of the city core, and 32 km (20 mi) inland from the Mediterranean Sea. The United States Air Force and the Turkish Air Force are the primary users of the air base, although it is also used by the Royal Air Force and by Royal Saudi Air Force.

White House condemns Syria's chemical weapons use

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/08/25/politics/un-report-chemical-weapons-syria/index.html

The White House is condemning the Syrian government Thursday after having announced that a year-long UN-backed investigation found that both the Assad regime and ISIS had used chemical weapons.

"It is now impossible to deny that the Syrian regime has repeatedly used industrial chlorine as a weapon against its own people", US National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

The NSC statement went on to accuse the regime of violating the Chemical Weapons Convention and a UN resolution.

The investigation,  led by the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons  (OPCW), the implementing body of the Chemical Weapons Convention, was launched a year ago at the behest of the UN Security Council with the aim of identifying the perpetrators of chemical attacks in Syria.

Because chlorine has non-military uses, its removal was not mandated by the US-Russia arrangement in 2013, governed by the UN Security Council resolution 2118. However, weaponized chlorine is still considered a chemical weapon and its use is banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention that the US-Russia deal compelled Syria to be a party to, thereby making Syria's use of the substance against civilians a violation of the agreement.

There have been many such attacks using chlorine alleged after the resolution took effect, but the UN report is the first definitive international declaration of a Syrian breach. (...)

Turkish Prime Minister vows to continue Syrian military operation

http://www.kvoa.com/story/32847217/turkish-pm-vows-to-continue-syria-military-operation

The Turkish prime minister vows to continue military operations in Syria until there's no "terror" threat to Turkey from the war-torn neighbor.

Friday's remarks by Binali Yildirim follow Turkey's incursion into Syria. Ankara this week sent tanks across the border to help Syrian rebels retake the Islamic State-held town of Jarablus and contain the expansion of Syria's Kurdish in an area bordering Turkey.

Yildirim says the Syrian Kurdish militia's goal is to carve a separate state - a "dream", he insists, "they will never achieve".

He says the Turkish cross-border operation would continue "until we ensure 100 per cent our border security and the life and property of our people".

Yildirim says Turkish operations in Syria will continue until IS militants "and other terror entities are cleared from the region".
