Showed for the first time at an international exhibition outside France, the French light armoured vehicles manufacturer Panhard Général Défense displayed at IDEX 2009 its 4x4 wheeled armoured vehicle VBR (Véhicule Blindé de Reconnaissance) featuring a Nexter Systems ARX-20 remotely controlled weapon station and Thales Land & Joint Systems communications systems coupled to a Barco NV rugged display unit used for command and control visualization.
With a gross vehicle weight of 11.5 Tonnes, the air transportable VBR is powered by a Tognum AG/MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH Series 106 diesel engine developing 325 hp coupled to a fully automatic transmission. The vehicle has a maximum road speed of about 110 km/h and an operating range at 60 km/h of 1000 km.
The VBR is seen as a complementary vehicle to the company widely sold Véhicule Blindé Léger (VBL), a light armoured vehicles ordered by France (1621), Greece (242), Portugal (38), Kuwait (20), Mexico (40), Niger (7), Gabon (12), Togo (2), Cameroun (5), Nigeria (72), Ruanda (16), Djibuti (7), Qatar (16), Oman (132), United Arab Emirates (24) and Indonesia (18). http://www.esdpa-org.eu/news/mar09/news_0903014.html
