JEDDAH, 16 June 2004 — Crown Prince Abdullah yesterday warned that the Kingdom’s patience with terrorists was running out and insisted authorities are up to dealing with the criminals.

He warned there could be no compromise in defending Islam and Saudi Arabia and protecting foreigners in the Kingdom and said scholars and clerics must do more to fight extremism.

Addressing participants in the Third National Dialogue Forum on women’s issues in Madinah, Prince Abdullah said here the coming days would bring good news in the fight against terrorism. His comments were broadcast live on Saudi television.

“As you know, these despicable incidents were being committed by the sons of this country. As a brother and citizen I must say I am appalled and sickened by what happened,” he said.

But he vowed the Kingdom “is capable of doing more than it has done. For the sake of mercy toward the errant group, we maintained patience and refrained from doing certain things that I cannot disclose now. We have been patient all this time... but our patience has limits,” the crown prince said.

The delegates presented him with the recommendations from the three-day forum which made waves in the national and international media.

The recommendations underlined the important role of women in society and called for protection of their rights within the framework of Islam.

Prince Abdullah said the terrorists changed their tactics and began targeting innocent people on the street. Their pretext had been the presence of foreigners in the country, whose protection was the duty of every citizen, the prince said. “It is not just the responsibility of Fahd, Abdullah, Sultan or Mishal” — a reference to himself and his brothers — “but the entire Saudi people.”

Now the terrorists were also targeting “the security men, who are your sons and brothers, and have committed very shameful acts. It pains me to say that these individuals hail from this country, which is known for its adherence to Islamic teachings and for its commitment to meeting its obligations toward its people and the Muslim and Arab nation.”

Prince Abdullah again reiterated that the “enemies of Islam” were behind the terrorist attacks. “You all know those enemies, and the entire world knows them,” he added.

He said there would be no compromise toward any threats to the religion and the country. “Islam is above all considerations, and when it comes to defending the religion and the country the opinion of this or that person will not be sought. Your brothers are now maintaining self-restraint. What you have witnessed over the past days is unprecedented.”

Prince Abdullah told citizens to put their trust in their people and in the security forces, who “remain vigilant day and night to protect the country and its people.”

He urged Saudi scholars, clerics and intellectuals to put more effort into countering the wave of terror, reiterating that those who maintain silence about what is happening would be considered complicit with terrorists.

Estruturalmente é que os EUA só andam com a monarquia saudita ao colo enquanto o petróleo iraquiano não começar a escorrer.

E a monarquia saudita também precisa dos EUA para a ajudarem a menter-se no poder feudal que têm.

A moeda de troca é a entrega da cabeça de Sharon.

Mas por este andar, os EUA ainda vão acabar por alienar o apoio Saudita, e nunca mais vêem o petróleo iraquiano a correr pelos oleodutos permanentemente sabotados.

Conclusão: é inevitável a termo uma aproximação entre os EUA e o Irão.

E a manutenção de boas relações com um outro bom produtor: A Rússia, para além da aproximação inaudita dos EUA a determinados países africanos, e olhem que não é própriamente pelas madeiras exóticas...

Daí esta viragem da Casa Branca, que nas últimas semanas parece olhar para a Europa com outros olhos.

Corpo de refém executado encontrado em Riade

O corpo do refém norte-americano decapitado pela Al Qaeda esta sexta-feira foi encontrado em Riade, avança o site de notícias saudita Al Wifaq. Paul Marshall Jonhson foi morto depois de o governo da Arábia Saudita ter recusado atender às exigências dos seus sequestradores.



O site Al Wafaq adianta apenas que «o corpo de Paul Marshall foi encontrado em Mowansiyah, na zona leste de Riade».
Há três dias, num vídeo atribuído à célula da Al Qaeda na Península Arábica, os operacionais ameaçavam matar o refém no prazo de 72 horas caso não fossem libertados todos os seguidores desta rede detidos na Arábia Saudita. Esta sexta-feira, as imagens da decapitação do refém norte-americano foram disponibilizadas no site islâmico Sawat al Yihad.

Forças sauditas matam chefe da célula que decapitou norte-americano

As forças de segurança sauditas mataram o chefe da Al Qaeda na península arábica, Abdel Aziz Al-Mouqrin, responsável pela célula que raptou e decapitou ontem um norte-americano, anunciou este sábado um responsável do ministério do Interior na televisão estatal saudita.



Além de Abdel Aziz Al-Mouqrin, alegado dirigente do grupo dos Takfir e de bombistas, «que publicou comunicados (reivindicando) assassínios e raptos», foram mortos em Riade mais três alegados elementos daquela célula, disse aquele responsável.
Os quatro homens «foram cercados numa estação de serviço no bairro Al-Malaz, no centro de Riade, pelas forças de segurança seguindo-se uma violenta troca de tiros», acrescentou.

Estas mortes ocorreram pouco depois de a Al-Qaeda ter anunciado que decapitara o refém norte-americano Paul Johnson.

Al Qaeda confirma morte de chefe da rede na Arábia Saudita

A Al Qaeda confirmou este domingo a morte do respectivo dirigente na Arábia Saudita, Abdulaziz al-Muqrin, bem como de outros três militantes, num confronto com forças do exército saudita.



As autoridades sauditas tinham anunciado sábado a morte destes quatro elementos da célula da rede de Bin Laden responsável pela decapitação do refém norte-americano Paul Johnson, sequestrado há uma semana na Arábia Saudita.
Em comunicado, a Al Qaeda afirma que os soldados sauditas dispararam contra os seus militantes, «pelo que três novos mártires passam a fazer parte do imaginário colectivo dos muçulmanos».

Acrescenta que «os mujahidines continuarão com decisão e determinação a jihad (guerra santa), com a ajuda de Deus, embora morram irmãos nossos».
