The U.K. is now undergoing flight trials of the Merlin Mk2, an upgrade of its anti-submarine warfare helo.
The service will get 30 updated helos, with upgraded radar and acoustic performance, although the core of the program is to deal with obsolescence and stretch service life until at least 2029.
Lockheed Martin, the prime contractor, and AgustaWestland, the platform provider, released a video of the Mk2. Here are excerpts showing the airframe, but also the new cockpit and mission station:

The cockpit and workstations feature touch screens and have been redesigned to make on-board operations easier. The refurbishment also cuts weight.
The helo is to reach full operational capability in 2014.

ROME — Norway has selected AgustaWestland to supply new search-and-rescue helicopters in a deal that could be worth more than €1 billion and include more than 16 AW101 helicopters.
An announcement on a Norwegian government website on Nov. 8 stated that Norway had “decided to commence final negotiations with the company AgustaWestland Ltd. for the delivery of new search and rescue helicopters to replace the current Sea King.”
AgustaWestland defeated competition from Eurocopter, as well as Europe’s NHIndustries and US maker Sikorsky.

The Nigerian Air Force will soon take delivery of two AgustaWestland AW101 helicopters, which will be used for VIP transport duties.
One of the AW101s was seen at AgustaWestland’s facility in Yeovil, Somerset, in the United Kingdom painted in Nigerian Air Force (NAF) VIP colours. The aircraft will presumably be operated by the NAF’s 101 Presidential Air Fleet in Abuja, according to Air Forces Daily.
The Nigerian AW101s were originally scheduled to be delivered to the Indian Air Force, but the Indian contract was subsequently cancelled following allegations of bribery and corruption.

The new helicopter, an AW-101 from Rome-based helicopter design and manufacturing company AgustaWestland, had been included in the Air Force’s five-year strategic plan (renstra) 2014 to 2019, Air Force spokesman First Marshall Dwi Badarmanto said on Monday.
"It was not bought specially for the president only, but it will also be used by VVIP guests including the President, Vice President and state guests," he said as quoted by newsportal Tempo.co.
Dwi said the helicopter was purchased to replace the old Super Puma, which had been used for the past 25 years.
The first AW-101 will arrive in Indonesia next year and two more will be imported to the country in 2017.
Despite claiming that the helicopter was not purchased specially for Jokowi, Dwi said the new AW-101 would support the President’s mobility due to its more advanced technology and speed with its three engines and greater passenger capacity.

Presidential aircraft crashes, a month after handover to Nigerian Air Force

TheNewsGuru.com gathered from a top, reliable source that one of the aircraft, Agusta AW 101, a medium-lift helicopter specially designed for military operations, got crashed less than a month after the Nigerian Air Force took delivery of it from the presidency, due to poor training of crew members saddled to man the operations of the aircraft.
When contacted, the Nigerian Air Force, P.R.O., Group Captain Dele Famuyiwa, denied the report that one of the aircraft crashed.
In a telephone conversation with TheNewsGuru.com, Famuyiwa said that the aircraft was not involved in a crash but an incidence of little effect.
"It was not a crash. I wouldn’t call it a crash because it just fell on the ground in Makurdi."
"I can say maybe it was an incident. You know accident is a higher degree of incidence. It was just an occurrence that did not take any life or equipment. Cars can malfunction and the same thing with any machine."
Famuyiwa said that the incidence was not in away a result of low training and skill of crew member as the same crew which managed the aircraft at the presidency still manage the aircraft at the air force base.
However, pictures obtained by TheNewsGuru as well as the information gathered, revealed that the aircraft was in a damaged position.
He confirmed that the aircraft have since been repainted from the initial white and green to camouflage.
Asked about the status of the aircraft and the number of persons affected by the crash, our source revealed that although the damages were significant, no life was lost to the crash.
"No fatality but significant damage to aircraft considering the fact that they hardly do insurance in the military."
"The flight engineer was injured."
It was gathered that one of the aircraft was due for a Periodic Deport Maintenance, PDM, only a day after the handover ceremony from the Presidency to the Nigerian Air Force.
The Presidency had on October 10, 2016 handed over the two ballistics defence capable aircraft from the Presidential fleet to the Nigerian Air Force, with a view to reduce government’s expenditure.

Murky AW101 delivery perplexes Indonesian defence officials

So far, only one of the helicopters, MSN 50248, is shown as having being delivered. This aircraft had previously been destined for the Indian Air Force as part of a 12 aircraft deal, but this was scuppered in 2014 by allegations of corruption around the Indian procurement. It was delivered to the Indonesian air force on 15 January 2017.
The Indonesian delivery supposedly took place despite a presidential decision in late 2015 to cancel the requirement.
Indonesian president Joko Widowo reportedly favours the Airbus Helicopters H225, for which Indonesian Aerospace (IAe) produces the upper and lower fuselage. IAe also conducts MRO work for Airbus Helicopters rotorcraft operated in the country.
The precise whereabouts of 50248 are unclear. State news agency Antara says that the aircraft has been delivered to Halim air base outside of Jakarta, although FlightGlobal was unable to confirm this.
In TV interviews, Indonesian defence officials have expressed dismay about the delivery. The air force chief of staff says the order was placed by his predecessor, and adds that the aircraft has, in fact, not been handed over. An investigation will be made into the purchase.
The country’s armed force’s chief says that he was not aware of the order in the first place. The defence minister, meanwhile, says that the finance ministry has paid for the aircraft.
