Canadá quer reabastecedor para cruzar o Atlântico
Conseguir reabastecer quatro caças F-18 Hornet em um voo entre o Canadá e a Europa sem precisar pousar para reabastecimento. É este um dos principais pré-requisitos da Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) para a sua nova futura aeronave de reabastecimento a ser adquirida para substituir os atuais cinco CC-150 Polaris (Airbus A310) em uso. O cenário descrito reforça o compromisso canadense de reforçar a defesa aérea no leste europeu, como o envio recente de caças para a Romênia.
Não é só. Os futuros reabastecedores devem ser capazes de apoiar todas as aeronaves atualmente ou futuramente em uso na RCAF – que atualmente avalia o F-35, o F-18 Super Hornet e o F-39 Gripen para substituir seus F-18A/B. Também será necessário realizar missões de transporte, de evacuação aeromédica e até, em configuração VIP, servir ao primeiro ministro do país.
Os pré-requisitos tornam difícil a participação do brasileiro KC-390 Millenium, da Embraer. O mais provável é que os dois candidatos mais fortes sejam o Boeing KC-46 Pegasus e o Airbus A330MRTT.
