Modernised KBVP Pandur II 8x8 CZ for 🇨🇿Czech army
The Czech company Tatra Defence Vehicle (TDV) has started development work on the new generation of Pandur II 8x8 wheeled infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), based on the interest of foreign customers and the Czech army's interest in the MLU of existing Pandurs in the arsenal and an overall increase in the number of Pandurs in the army. Among other things, the Pandur is being considered as a self-propelled mortar to replace the existing vz.82 PRAM-L and vz.85 PRAM-S.
The new wheeled IFV is referred to as the Pandur II 8x8 EVO. The maximum weight has increased to 25t, which is 4.2t more than the KBVP Pandur II 8x8 CZ and 2.5t more than the Pandur II 8x8 KOVS/KOVVŠ. The hull is new, with redesigned lower part, with higher ballistic and mine protection, fuel tanks are moved to a safer place. The air conditioning, heating, lighting and filtration equipment will also be improved.
A new, more powerful 8.9l Cummins ISL 540 turbodiesel engine is used, with an output of 405 kW at 2200 rpm and a torque of 1900 Nm at 1400 rpm, coupled to a ZF Ecomat 6 HO 902 S six-speed automatic transmission. The range on the road should be up to 600 km, maximum speed up to 105 km/h. The vehicle will not be amphibious.
A new RCWS @ElbitSystemsLtd UT-30 Mk.2 with a 30mm Mk.44 Bushmaster II autocannon, 7.62 machine gun and two Spike-LR/LR2 ATGMs will also be installed. The aim of the machine gun and cannon ranges from -15° to 60°. The commander and gunner will have fully stabilized sights, a day TV camera and a thermal imaging camera (panoramic for the commander) with twice the range of the current Pandur II 8x8 CZ KBVP. Both sights have automatic target tracking and "hunter-killer" function. The ELAWS laser irradiation indication and localization device is also installed in the turret system. The turret can also be equipped with Iron Fist LC APS. Eight 76mm Wegmann smoke grenade launchers at the front of the turret are also planned.
The crew consists of 10 persons - driver, commander, gunner and 7 passengers.
The development is expected to be completed in 2024.
