Ukrainian fighter pilot 'Juice' in a recent interview given to Ukrainian military outlet 'Militarniy' confirmed that the work to supply Ukrainians with fighters and attack helicopters is under way. Main struggle right now is to identify the most fitting platform, dedicate budget to said project and figure out the logistical kinks
He did confirm that Ukraine has 'Significantly more pilots then it does planes' and that 'We already identified a group of pilots that could go and receive education'
He also clarified as to why both Ukrainians and their US partners believe that the 3-6 months mark is achievable. They do not plan to use the provided air platform for anything other than CAPs initially. They want to protect their air space primarily, put in the hours on the airframes and later, once everything has been established, further employ the airframes to their fullest potential as the multirole fighters that they're meant to be by expanding their training
In regards to helicopters: Cobras and Little birds were discussed. MD530 is viewed as an immediate solution, though Ukrainians are sceptical. Cobra is viewed as the more long term solution, since Apache is a very expensive and mighty challenging logistically demanding platform for any country, especially Ukraine
'Juice' is confident that helicopters might be settled upon quicker than fighters, as it is significantly easier to get that done as well as for Ukrainians to put them to immediate use. Biggest issue overall, is to identify units within US military that would be willing to give over their aircraft
