Belgium Orders 220 DINGO 2s; Option for 132 Additional Vehicles

MUNICH, Germany --- The Kingdom of Belgium has placed an order with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann for 220 all-protected carrier vehicles, type DINGO2, in various mission variants.

The order volume is 170 million euros. Moreover, there is an option for 132 additional DINGO2.

With this biggest order so far, the DINGO2 becomes the new benchmark for protected vehicles in the armed forces of Europe.

The first vehicles are scheduled for delivery in late 2005; production unit deliveries will follow in the 2006 – 2011 time-frame. The DINGO2 vehicles are manufactured at the KMW location in Munich, with substantial participation of Belgian and German suppliers.

"This order is not only a significant milestone for the Dingo programme, but also underscores the leading position of our company in this field", says Frank Haun, KMW´s managing director. "Over the past several years, we have consistently extended our product range to wheeled vehicles and have thus adapted it to the new threat scenarios facing the armed forces. A protected cargo area is at the top of the list of priorities and the modern system layout of the DINGO2 is the right answer", Frank Haun adds.

The DINGO2 is a consistent upgrade of the DINGO 1 all-protected carrier vehicle fielded in 2000 and proven in many foreign missions. For as many as eight crew, it currently affords the highest level of protection against modern hand-held weapons, artillery fragments, anti-personnel and anti-tank mines as well as against NBC combat agents.

With the UNIMOG chassis, which stands out for its high cross-country mobility, the vehicle reaches maximum speeds of more than 90 kph and has a radius of action of appr. 1,000 kilometres. On top of that, the DINGO2 is airportable on the C 160 Transall, C130 Hercules and A400M transport aircraft.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG is market leader in Europe for armoured wheeled and tracked vehicles. With a workforce of 2,500 and comprehensive system expertise and competencies, KMW as the lead system contractor develops, manufactures and supports a product line ranging from airportable and mine-protected wheeled vehicles (Dingo and Mungo) to reconnaissance, air defence and artillery systems (Fennek, PzH 2000) on up to heavy battle tanks (Leopard 1 and 2). The armed forces of 25 nations worldwide rely upon KMW’s operational systems.
