A Força Aérea do Peru / Força Aérea Peruana parece estar a caminhar a passos largos no sentido de adquirir o T-50/TA-50/FA-50.

On 4 July 2024, president Dina Boluarte and Defence Minister Walter Astudillo supervised the signing of the commercial contract between SEMAN Peru and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). The object of the contract is to manufacture parts for FA-50 jets.
This comes at the time when talks are underway to obtain up to 24 FA-50s for the air force and this may well pave the way to that deal as well. In fact, local parts assembly may have been a prerequisite for the acquisition.
Peru and the Korean republic have a long-standing cooperation. The Fuerza Aérea del Peru (FAP, Peruvian Air Force) received eight former RoKAF A-37s in February 2010. In 2014, 20 KT-1 Woong Bee were bought, ten KT-1P trainers and ten KA-1P counter-insurgency aircraft. Sixteen of these were manufactured under license by SEMAN in Peru.

KAI (Korea Aerospace Industries) and Seman Peru (Peruvian Maintenance Service) signed a memorandum of understanding for the joint production of parts for the Korean FA-50 light fighter, an aircraft that is being promoted for the Peruvian Air Force.
In order to implement an aeronautical parts production line, Seman Peru, a company belonging to the Ministry of Defense, and KAI signed a commercial agreement for the Peruvian entity to become a supplier of aeronautical parts manufacturing services for the FA-50 aircraft.
"We are starting the modernization of our glorious Air Force. We are expanding the capabilities of our aerospace industry and soon our Quiñones sky will have more security with the modernization of the air fleet," said the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, who presided over the signing ceremony of the agreement, accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Walter Astudillo Chávez, the Deputy of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) Kang Hwan-seok and the South Korean Ambassador to Peru, Choi Jong-wook.

KAI, precisely, selected Seman Peru for its positive experience in the manufacture of structural parts for the KT-1P, as well as for the AS-9100 Certification that the Peruvian company holds, which accredits it as a manufacturer of aeronautical parts.
The signed agreement is part of the negotiations between Peru and South Korea for the eventual purchase of 20 to 24 FA-50 light fighters to replace the Aermacchi MB-339 and Cessna A-37B Dragonfly, already retired from the FAP.
According to KAI, its FA-50 is also being considered for the replacement of the Mirage 2000 and MiG-29, which currently form the spearhead of the FAP. Seoul is also offering the Peruvian government the possibility of joining the KF-21 Boramae project in place of Indonesia, which was unable to honor its commitments to its Korean partners.
As a result of the agreement, SEMAN Peru is to produce approximately 250 structural parts for the FA-50 light fighter aircraft. This number could eventually be expanded, as KAI is concentrating its marketing capabilities in the region, given that there are many countries with potential demand for the replacement of older fighter aircraft more than 30 years old.

Peru may buy up to 24 South Korean FA-50 light combat aircraft followed by potential KF-21 Boromae fighter jets.
(2 de Julho de 2024)
According to Pucara Defense on July 1, 2024, the Peruvian government is negotiating with South Korea and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to acquire between 20 and 24 FA-50 light combat aircraft for approximately $780 million. In addition to this significant investment, Peru is also considering joining the KF-21 fifth-generation fighter program, which could further modernize its air force and expand its aerospace capabilities.
As reported by Santiago Rivas, the Peruvian government is in discussions with South Korea and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to purchase between 20 and 24 KAI FA-50 light combat aircraft. A letter of intent is expected in the coming weeks, with a contract likely to be finalized before the end of the year, amounting to approximately $780 million. Sources from both Peru and Korea have indicated that this initiative aims to replicate the KT-1 trainers' project, where 20 units were sold to the Peruvian Air Force (FAP), with 16 assembled locally by the FAP's Maintenance Service (SEMAN) at the Las Palmas Air Base.
