In Washington it is hardly a secret that the same people in and around the administration who brought you Iraq are preparing to do the same for Iran. The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. The U.N.'s nuclear watchdog said on Thursday Iran had failed to meet a February 21 deadline to suspend enrichment of uranium, exposing Tehran to possible new sanctions over concerns it seeks to produce an atomic bomb.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a report Iran had installed two cascades, or networks, of 164 centrifuges in its underground Natanz enrichment plant with another two cascades close to completion.

EUA pedem a Israel que rejeite qualquer contato com a Síria

a secretária de Estado americana, Condoleezza Rice, foi perguntada por diplomatas israelenses durante sua visita a Jerusalém esta semana sobre se era necessário comprovar se o presidente sírio, Bashar al-Assad, fala sério quando faz chamados à paz.

A resposta da chefe da diplomacia americana foi taxativa, segundo as fontes diplomáticas: "Nem se quiserem".
