Está em Lisboa o navio USS Mount Whitney.
Encontra-se atracado na Rocha do Conde de Óbidos.

É com muita frequenca que o LCC20USS Mount Whitney escala Lisboa.

É primo do TAGF 11USS Coronado, entretanto já descomissionado na Marinha americana.

Military Sealift Command currently operates 111 non-combatant, civilian-crewed ships worldwide. In addition, the command has access to 64 other ships that are kept in reduced operating status, ready to be activated if needed.

"No âmbito das suas novas funções como plataforma de comando no mar do JC Lisbon, prevê-se que, a partir de 01 de Julho, o USS “MOUNT WHITNEY” possa apoiar o comando da NRF onde e quando esta seja chamada a intervir, no quadro das missões que lhe estão atribuídas. Esta força, estabelecida na Cimeira de Praga de 2002 como instrumento de resposta rápida da Aliança para gestão de crises, conta, actualmente, com um efectivo de cerca de 20.000 militares, com uma prontidão de até 30 dias e será comandada pelo JC Lisbon de 1 de Julho de 2005 a 30 de Junho de 2006."

Estará no Pacifico ?

O seu gémeo o Blue Ridge pertence a frota do Pacífico, sendo baseado em Yokosuka, Japão.

USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) and the embarked Seventh Fleet Staff Sailors and Marines departed the bustling port city of Hong Kong on Feb. 19.

During the ship’s four-day visit, approximately 1,000 Sailors and Marines participated in various community service projects, explored the city, and enjoyed Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) sponsored tours.

Hong Kong and the surrounding area provided ample opportunity for service members to learn more about China’s rich and diverse history.

USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) departed the port city of Laem Chabang, Thailand on March 1 after an eventful four-day visit.

While visiting Thailand, the approximately 1,000 Blue Ridge and embarked Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet staff Sailors and Marines spent most of their time in nearby Pattaya Beach.  They crew participated in sporting events, explored the local culture and took tours to nearby Bangkok.

Voltou hoje, 16 de Março ao Tejo este navio,que fica atracado em Alcântara.
