If the Sovietsky Soyuz service tests had anything to do with it, will probably never be known. But the truth of the matter is that only 2 months after the World has given a glimpse of her, Germany had made a decision. It would not be fighting the USSR.

Only a couple of days later, Germany dares England and France's guarantee of Polish independence, effectively declaring war on those three and the rest of their allies.

For the People's Navy, this meant three things. First, more time to prepare against any possible foe. Second, a chance to see one of it's most likely adversaries - the Royal Navy - in action. And third, with any luck, weakened British and French navies, assuming the Kriegsmarine even managed to put up a fight.

Submarines from the Baltic Command are sent to spy gather information about the German Baltic capacities, and they quickly learn the new U-boats are not what they used to be in the Great War, as they are quickly defeated by old Polish destroyers.

Naturally this wasn't enough to save Poland, and in less then a month, it fell.

Fortunately for them, the Soviet Union had moved in to protect Eastern Poland.

Not that the Workers' and Peasants' Red Fleet had been idle for this month, only watching. Not at all. Only days after peace was guaranteed and Germany  declared it's own doom at the hands of the capitalists, improved tools and weapons for the Naval Infantry concept were presented, and immediately three Divisions started being trained, from a mix of sailors and soldiers, veterans and fresh recruits.

In the following months, further progress would be made, both in advanced new equipment to protect our main harbours and in the field of strategy and tactics, which were quickly spread to Admirals, Captains and sailors.

In November, the Murmansk Shipyards - specialised in Arctic conditions - proudly deliver for commission their first military creation in years: The light cruiser Murmansk.

And not a moment too soon it was!
