PREPARING FOR DOOMSDAY: FACTS

The Mayan calendar ends in 2012 and is said to predict catastrophe while NASA predicts a sharp increase in the number of sunspots and sun flares. Claims like these have many believing that the world will end in 2012.

Located in the northeastern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, Phoenix has a subtropical arid climate. In summer, average high temperatures can be over 100°F.


On average, Phoenix has only five days per year where the temperature drops to or below freezing.


A coronal mass ejection (CME) is currently the largest type of explosion in the solar system. A CME's power is close to the power of one billion hydrogen bombs.

Este assunto é levado muito a sério em alguns países e nos EUA é quase moda. Cá em Portugal há também uns quantos que entraram na mesma onda. Pessoalmente acredito que se alguém quer realmente preparar-se para "acontecimentos extremos", o melhor é voltar para a agricultura, de preferência a biológica. Eu tenho a minha horta e sei o trabalho que dá, nem quero imaginar trabalhar nisso todos os dias...

É claro que fazer algo como o que se vê neste link da NG é extremamente dificil para grande parte das pessoas, é preciso muito dinheiro para montar um bunker e comprar todos aqueles enlatados.

Preferia muito mais comprar um terreno numa aldeia deserta do interior, é bastante mais agradável.

Olha que não falei por falar, eu e a minha mulher estamos a pensar seriamente em comprar uma moradia com terreno para recuperar no interior (do meu concelho) daqui a uns 4/5 anos. Como disse no DB, a minha filhota de 4 meses come sopas SÓ com legumes que eu trago da horta do terreno do meu pai. Os legumes não têm qualquer tipo de quimicos excepto os que há naturalmente na natureza, e ela está um espectaculo... :D

Estou agora a preparar um novo tipo de rega, é que eu só posso ir 1/2 vezes por semana ao terreno e andar com baldes de água não é nada prático especialmente para uma pessoa doente como o meu pai, por isso estou a comprar depósitos de água e vou meter um sistema de rega gota a gota.

LOOL ai é em Mafra? Epá tanto faz, o gajo cultiva. Se houver crise humanitária, quem se safa é ele e os outros que sabem de agricultura, e não os "génios, culturalmente desenvolvidos, e modernos" que vivem nas cidades. E atenção que falo daqueles que acham que agricultura é para analfabetos. Até que eu preciso de ganhar musculo...

Claire e João são um exemplo de um grupo de novos rurais com crescente implantação nalgumas partes esquecidas de Portugal, como a serra da Lousã ou o barrocal algarvio. Os primeiros destes neo-rurais eram estrangeiros. Vinham de uma Europa Central então ameaçada por Chernobyl. Por cá, desde os anos quarenta do século passado que as migrações eram em direcção às cidades. Foi este êxodo que transformou Portugal num pais macrocéfalo, com um interior cada vez mais desertificado e a população concentrada no Litoral e na Grande Lisboa. Mas o mundo rural mudou muito nos últimos trinta anos. Os tractores substituíram o trabalho braçal. Hoje também há supermercados, auto-estradas, subsídios comunitários, Internet. Iniciou-se outra migração interna, a mudança para o campo dos ex-citadinos, e os geógrafos até já distinguem diferentes grupos de “neo-rurais”: os que partem por motivação ecológica, os que na reforma regressam à terra natal, aqueles que se dedicam ao tele-trabalho, e até os desempregados por causa da crise... São algumas dessas pessoas que o documentário vai encontrar. “Valorizam o seu próprio tempo e modos de vida mais solidários “ – explica a geógrafa Teresa Alves – “e vão à procura de actividades em equilíbrio com a natureza. Também são pessoas que têm uma cultura de território e que buscam um lugar específico onde possam ser felizes”.
