Turkey Orders 12 S-70B Seahawk Helicopters

 STRATFORD, CT. --- Sikorsky Aircraft announced today it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Turkey for 12 new S-70B Seahawk helicopters plus an option for five additional helicopters. First deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2008.  
 
Sikorsky previously delivered eight S-70B Seahawk helicopters to Turkey and its Land Forces also operate more than 100 S-70A Black Hawk helicopters.  
 
"We are delighted that Turkey has selected the Seahawk for this vital mission," said Joseph Gigantelli, Sikorsky Regional Vice President of Worldwide Sales. "The Seahawk is the most modern and capable anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface unit warfare (ASuW) helicopter in the world."  
 
The S-70B helicopter is an international derivative of the U.S. Navy SH-60B Seahawk. The S-70B has a fully integrated glass cockpit with smart multifunction liquid crystal displays and a mission management system. Its flexible mission package includes dipping sonar, ESM, FLIR, multi-mode radar, ASE, and Penguin and Hellfire missiles. Multi-mission capable, the S-70B can perform Search and Rescue (SAR), Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC), surveillance, Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP), and utility missions.  
 
Other international Seahawk customers include Australia, Greece, Japan, Spain and Thailand. Sikorsky is also under contract to deliver six S-70B Seahawk helicopters to Singapore beginning in 2008.

Turkish Navy Future LHD Model Showcased with F-35B STOVL Aircraft at IDEF 2015
 
At IDEF 2015, the International Defence Industry Fair currently held in Istanbul, Turkey, local shipyard "Sedef Shipbuilding" is showcasing a model of the future Turkish Navy Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) with the short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II jets on board. The same model is showcased on the Turkish Navy booth.

Turkey's Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) announced in December 2013 that it selected Sedef shipyard as winner of its LPD tender and that final contract negotiations with this shipyard could begin. Sedef shipyard in Turkey offers a design based on Juan Carlos LHD under the collaboration with Spain's Navantia.

Landing Platform Dock Project
According to SSM, the Landing Platform Dock Project (LPD)’s main purpose is the acqusition of one Landing Platform Dock in order to meet the operational requirements of Turkish Naval Forces. The scope of the procurement is for:
- 1 LPD and
- Four Landing Craft Mechanics (LCM)
- Twenty seven Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAV),
- Two Landing Craft Personnel Vehicles (LCVP),
- One Commander Boat
- One RHIB (Rubber Hull Inflated Boat) will be acquired

One of the requirement was for a Privately Owned Turkish Shipyard to be main contractor, also responsible for design, construction, integration and tests and final performance.

The other proposals which were rejected were:
RMK Marine Shipyard offering its own indigenous design and Desan shipyard offering a design based on South Korea's Dokdo class. At the early stage of the tender a Chinese company submitted its design proposal but then backed away.

The LPD is a single hull vessel made of steel whose platform is designed by Navantia and combat system integrated by ASELSAN and HAVELSAN. The design is based on a combination of military and commercial standards and specifications. The structure, equipment and materials comply with Turk Loydu Classification rules and civil standards, whist her combat system, ammunition handling and stowage systems, systems of replenishment at sea, flight deck and the damage control system follow military standards

Turkish Navy LHD Mission Profiles and Capabilities

The ship is to be designed for four mission profiles:
» Amphibious ops: Capable of transporting a marine infantry force to carry out landing and support operations.
» Force Projection: Transporting forces to a theatre of operations.
» Aircraft Carrier: A platform for carrier-based naval aircrafts, acting as a flight deck for strategic projection airborne vectors (Navy's Air Wing)
» Humanitarian air ops: MOOTW (Military Operations Other Than War), humanitarian assistance, evacuation of crisis area, hospital ship in areas affected by natural disaster, etc.

We reported in January this year that Turkey took the decision to built the future LHD (Turkish designation: LPD Project) as an aircraft carrier capable to deploy the F-35B, the STOVL variant of the Lockheed Martin built Joint Strike Fighter.

FIRMADO EN TURQUÍA EL CONTRATO PARA LA CONSTRUCCIÓN DE UN BUQUE TIPO "JUAN CARLOS I"

    Supondrá 900.000 horas de trabajo, fundamentalmente de Ingeniería en Ferrol

 

Durante la feria de defensa IDEF-2015 en Estambul, el astillero turco SEDEF ha firmado el contrato con la Subsecretaría de Industrias de Defensa turca (SSM) para el diseño y construcción de un buque de desembarco anfibio LPD para la Marina Turca, en el que Navantia participa como socio tecnológico.

 

Navantia proporcionará a SEDEF, para su construcción local, el diseño, transferencia de tecnología, equipos y asistencia técnica. El diseño está basado en el LHD “Juan Carlos I” adaptado a las necesidades de la Marina turca, con la gran ventaja de ser un diseño probado y que ha demostrado sus magníficas prestaciones desde su entrega. Los equipos que suministra Navantia son los diésel generadores que serán fabricados en Navantia y el Sistema Integrado de Control de Plataforma.

 

La adjudicación del contrato se anunció el 27 de diciembre de 2013 y tras año y medio de negociaciones se ha alcanzado el hito de la firma. La entrega del buque está prevista en el año 2021.

 

Se estima que este contrato dotará a los astilleros, la Fábrica de Motores y Navantia Sistemas de unas 900.000 horas de trabajo, la mayor parte de ellas en el área de Ingeniería en Ferrol.

 

Navantia también tiene un contrato de dos buques similares para la Marina australiana, “Canberra” y “Adelaide”, de los cuales se ha entregado el primero en octubre de 2014 y se está finalizando el segundo en Australia para ser entregado en el último cuarto de 2015.

 

Este contrato supone la entrada de Navantia en el mercado turco, que tiene un ambicioso plan de programas futuros, entre otros la adquisición de fragatas antiaéreas y por el que Navantia está apostando a través de su delegación establecida desde 2013, así como la consolidación como referente en el mercado de LHD.

Turkey is aiming to achieve independence from imported equipment by 2023, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the IDEF defence exhibition in Istambul (...)

According to IHS data, Turkey assembled 60% of the equipment that was delivered to its armed forces in 2014, with the United States  (15%) and Spain (9%), the two other largest sources of equipment.

Imports of foreign made equipment were valued at US $1.5 billion in 2014 (...) Turkey is also keen to promote exports of its defence equipment, with the Undersecretariat of Defence Industries claiming to have exported US $1.6 billion worth of goods in 2014. Turkey completes for the first time upgrade of submarines by a civilian firm

Turkish has completed upgrades on two AY-class submarines, contractor STM, an Ankara-based defense technology company said.

The modernization project comprising renewal of Electronic Support,  Attack and Search Periscopes and Inertial Navigation Systems has been carried out by STM as the main contractor and applied successfully to TCG Doganay (S-351) and TCG Dolunay (S-352) AY-class submarines.* (...)

The modernization projec [started in 2011] led by STM remains significant in a way that for the first time in the history of Turkey a civilian company has been appointed as a main contractor of a Navy submarine project (..)

* The AY-class is the name given by the Turkish Navy to their six German type 209-1200 submarines. Three of them were made in Germany (Saldiray, Atilay and Batiray) and the other three (Ildiray, Doganay and Dolunay) in Turkey, at the Gölcūk Naval Shipyard.

Turkey's order for the local construction of a landing platform dock (LPD) based on the Spanish Juan Carlos class has come into effect,  Navantia told  IHS Jane's on 22 September.

The contract, signed in May, came into effect with the receipt of Turkey's first payment for the vessel by Navantia on 18 September.

  SEDEF Gemi Insaati will construct the 27,436 tonne amphibious ship, based on Navantia's BPE (Buque de Proyección Estratégica) design, for the Turkish Navy's Havuzlu Cikarma Gemisi (HCG) programme.

With reception of the first payment, construction work on the ship is scheduled to begin one year from now, with delivery scheduled for 2021. (...)

Navantia is responsible for delivering design and technology transfer, and five 8,000 KW MAN Diesel & Turbo SE 16V32/40 diesel engines .

Agora é oficial: primeiro porta-aviões turco de projeção de força irá se chamar ‘Anadolu’ (‘Anatólia’)

A Marinha da Turquia anunciou oficialmente nesta segunda-feira (04.01) que o seu primeiro porta-aviões concebido para atuar como navio de projeção de força e de assalto anfíbio – uma embarcação de desenho inspirado no conhecido e bem avaliado Juan Carlos I, da Armada espanhola – irá se chamar Anadolu (Anatólia).

Projetado pelo estaleiro Navantia, da Espanha, o barco turco, de 225 m de comprimento, 32 m de boca e 28.000 toneladas de deslocamento (a plena carga) – ligeiramente maior que o Juan Carlos I –, está sendo construído no estaleiro Sedef Shipbuilding Inc., de Istambul, e deve entrar em serviço dentro de cinco anos e meio.

Sua principal característica será a capacidade de operar caças tipo short take-off and vertical landing aircraft (aeronaves STOVL), de decolagem assistida, que irão alçar voo de uma pista Ski-jump, impulsionados por catapulta.

Os almirantes turcos esperam poder operar, a bordo do Anadolu, as aeronaves supersônicas F-35 Lightning II, de fabricação americana.



A novidade permitirá uma expressiva elevação dos préstimos da Força Naval da Turquia – hoje uma importante aliada das marinhas da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte.

O barco será consagrado às operações de apoio ao assalto anfíbio, de defesa aérea de frota e de ataque a alvos navais e terrestres.

Ele transportará quatro grandes lanchas de desembarque, oito helicópteros, dezenas de viaturas blindadas, e ainda terá acomodações para um contingente de 1.400 fuzileiros navais (dois batalhões completamente equipados), além de um pequeno hospital capaz de realizar intervenções cirúrgicas
