Assume no próximo dia 23 de Setembro o comando da EUROFOR, o Major-General Martins Ferreira. Outra força europeia, a EUROMARFOR, também está sob comando português, do Vice-Almirante Saldanha Lopes. Enquanto a EUROMARFOR se mantém activa em exercícios no Mediterrâneo prevendo novas operações reais, Martins Ferreira na EUROFOR irá preparar o comando  Battle Group 2011-2 que contará com forte empenhamento nacional.

Desse texto não retive grande coisa, mas foi realmente extinta, ou foi simplesmente a desmobilização das unidades operacionais atribuidas?
É que relembro a EUROFOR estava organizada num Battlegroup e estava em prevenção como um dos battlegroups da União Europeia, pode simplesmente ter chegado ao fim o tempo atribuido e foi substituido por um Battlegroup de outra nação.

12th of June 2011, the Members States of EUROFOR (Italy, France, Portugal and
Spain) agreed on the closure of EUROFOR and effective as of July the 2nd 2012 as
followed

Prior to end of the ceremony, occurred the poignant moment of the Lowering of
EUROFOR flag, then the symbolic handover of the EUROFOR Flag by the last
EUROFOR Commander, Major General José Alberto Martins Ferreira to the Chiefs of
Defense of the constitutive Nations of EUROFOR.

A EUROFOR era essencialmente um QG permanente composto por militares da França, Espanha, Italia e Portugal localizado em Florença (http://www.eurofor.it/).

Não estava organizada num Battlegroup. Os Paises integrantes da EUROFOR ofereceram um conjunto de forças/capacidades e um Force HQ (com base no staff da EUROFOR) para a União Europeia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EU_Battlegroup) para o 2º semestre de 2011.
