Reportagem sobre o futuro "Anadolu". De facto, a maior parte das imagens são do BPE espanhol Juan Carlos I , em que o LHD turco baseia-se.

Turkish Navy signed a contract with Aselsan-Havelsan Joint Venture for mid-life upgrade on Barbaros class frigates.
The scope of the contract is to replace the legacy combat management system on board of the 4 MEKO 200 Track IIA/B class frigates, commissioned between 1997 and 2000 to Turkish Navy. These frigates have TACTICOS combat management system built by Dutch company Signaal. (Now Thales). The new Barbaros Combat Management System (BI-SYS), will be a derivate of the existing GENESIS CMS made locally and used on Ada (Milgem) class corvettes and Gabya (Perry) class frigates.
The joint venture is formed between the defence electronic company Aselsan and defense software company Havelsan The Joint Venture, will carry out development of all the hardware and software needed to integrate weapons and sensors on board with the BI-SYS. This phase will be followed by land and sea test before final integration on board of the ships.
Furthermore, a fire control system to control the Mk45 127mm gun will be manufactured with the knowledge gained from a similar FC system developed locally for the 76mm guns.
The delivery of the first ship is planned in November 2020.

Turkey emerges as potential buyer of UK helicopter carrier HMS Ocean

Royal Navy photo of HMS Ocean

The Turkish government is interested in buying the soon-to-be-decommissioned UK helicopter carrier HMS Ocean if it is not sold to Brazil.
In a reply to a parliamentary question, the UK defense ministry confirmed that Turkey sent an expression of interest to UK about the potential sale of HMS Ocean.
HMS Ocean is currently on her final deployment as a commissioned Royal Navy ship, serving the role of NATO Standing Maritime Group 2 flagship in the Mediterranean.
HMS Ocean and her crew are expected to return their homeport at Naval Base Plymouth in December after starting their deployment in March this year.
Commissioned in October 1995, the 202-meter long HMS Ocean replaced HMS Bulwark as fleet flagship in June 2015. In her role as a helicopter carrier and amphibious assault ship, Ocean is designed to deliver troops by helicopter or by landing craft.
After her decommissioning was announced, Brazilian media reports rumored the HMS Ocean could be sold to the Brazilian Navy for a “reasonable price”. That price, according to reports, is £80 million pounds.

Second helicopter carrier for Turkey

Turkey is already building a landing helicopter dock which is based on the Spanish Navy’s (LHD) Juan Carlos I and designed by Navantia. The Turkish version of the ship will be named TCG Anadolu and have the pennant number L-408.
First steel on the ship, which will be registered as a light aircraft carrier by the Turkish Lloyd, was cut in May 2016 while delivery is scheduled for 2021.

With F-35B production ramping up, the AV-8 Harrier is entering into the twilight of its service with the United States Marine Corps. By most accounts, America's Harrier fleet has quite a bit of life left in it, especially considering Pentagon picked up the UK's entire fleet of 74 Harriers, many of which were very young, and all the spare parts that went with them, for cost of roughly 1.35 F-35Bs at today's prices, or a paltry $177M.

As a result, large quantities of surplus Harriers and ample stocks of spare parts are likely to be put up for sale by the DoD in the coming years. Considering the jet's unique short-takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) abilities and its most recent upgrades—in the AV-8B+'s case this includes the ability to execute beyond-visual range air-to-air combat by employing the AIM-120 AMRAAM with their APG-65 radar sets—they represent an attractive and affordable acquisition opportunity for foreign air arms.

Turkish group to modernize Barbaros-class frigates  By: Burak Ege Bekdil   7 hours ago

The TCG Orucreis (F-245) is one of four Turkish frigates that are slated to undergo half life-cycle full modernization before 2025. The frigate is pictured docked in Port Sudan on June 16, 2014, during a tour to 24 African countries aimed at boosting relations. (Ebrahim Hamid/AFP/Getty Images)

ANKARA, Turkey — A local consortium of two big-scale Turkish defense companies will upgrade the navy’s Barbaros-class frigates, the companies announced.

Military electronics specialist Aselsan, Turkey’s biggest defense company, and military software concern Havelsan will perform half life-cycle full modernization work on the frigates. Both companies are state controlled.

Aselsan said in a statement it sent to the Istanbul Stock Exchange that its share of the work was worth €175 million plus TL 457 million (approximately $115 million). Havelsan did not disclose its share of the work.

Aselsan said the modernization work would be completed by 2025.

The Turkish Navy operates four Barbaros-class multipurpose frigates. Two warships were built by the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, and the remaining two were constructed by the Golcuk Naval Shipyard in Turkey with German technological know-how.

The keel for the first ship in class, TCG Barbaros (F-244), was laid in April 1992. The vessel was launched in September 1993 and entered service in March 1995.
TCG Orucreis (F-245) was laid in July 1992, launched in July 1994 and entered service in May 1996.
TCG Salihreis (F-246) was laid in March 1995, launched in September 1997 and entered service in December 1998.
Turkey laid the last ship in the Barbaros class, TCG Kemalreis (F-247), in December 1996 and launched in July 1998. It entered service in June 2000.

Barbaros-class frigates feature anti surface warfare (ASuW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-aircraft warfare (AAW) capabilities.

Turkish Navy and Aselsan have conducted live firing tests of the Korkut D gun system on board of TCG Sokullu Mehmet Paşa. The trials are believed to be performed during the first week of May. Korkut is a Self Propelled Air Defense Gun System developed by Aselsan. The initial customer for this system is the Turkish Land Forces. A typical system has one command vehicle and 3 gun vehicles.

TCG Edincik Gets A New Mine Hunting Sonar

It was revealed during the industry day of the Nusret 2018 mine warfare exercise, that the Turkish minehunter TCG Edincik was fitted with the mine detection sonar of Aselsan.

Aselsan started to development of MATESS, mine detection sonar as a private project without a firm order from Turkish Navy. When the system was evolved to certain maturity, it was installed on board of Edincik class minehunter TCG Edincik.

The minehunter started her life as FS Calliope in 1971 in French Navy. In 1999 she and her 4 sisters were bought by the Turkish Navy. She was renamed as TCG Edincik and transferred in 1998. In her original configuration, she was fitted with DUBM 20B minehunting sonar.

According to Aselsan MATESS is a mine detection and object avoidance sonar, providing automatic detection, localization and classification capability for underwater objects, supporting ships navigation safety at high reliability.

The system is made up from the transducer array, transmitter and receiver, signal processing and user interface units.

Aselsan expects the testing of the sonar system on TCG Edincik will end in late December and in early 2019 the system will officially be inaugurated to Turkish Navy. Her attendance to the Nusret mine warfare exercise should be regarded as a part of the testing and evaluation process of the MATESS by Turkish Navy
