The Northrop-Grumman X-47B succesfully conducted yesterday the first ever Autonomous Aerial Refueling (AAR) of an unmanned aircraft. While flying off the coast of Maryland and Virginia the Navy X-47B connected to an Omega K-707 and received over 4,000 pounds of fuel using the Navy's probe-and-drogue method. According to the head of the Navy's Unmanned Carrier Aviation program, Capt.Beau Duarte, it is "a significant, grounbreaking step forward for the Navy" which ultimately extends the carriers' power projection. The X-47B is an unmanned combat aircraft, designed for aircraft carrier based operations. It is a tail-less jet-powered flying wing. Northrop-Grumman intends to develop it into a battlefield-ready aircraft, the Unmanned Carrier-Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike (UCLASS).This is the first take-off of a X-47B from the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77) carrier.//www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw3m7bqrQ64
