VARD AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORT FOR CHILE

Vard Marine has been selected to design an amphibious transport vessel for the Chilean Navy, to be built at the Asmar shipyard in Talcahuano.

The multipurpose vessel will be capable of undertaking operations throughout the Pacific and Southern Oceans, providing capabilities that include logistical support, search and rescue, troop and cargo movement and deployment, or humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. It will be based on an existing Vard 7 series design, and will be specifically adapted to the precise requirements of the Chilean Navy, incorporating the latest generation of integrated dock systems. This will allow for transport and deployment of a wide range of cargo in containers and vehicles, landing craft, helicopters and rescue boats for multiple mission sets.

Vard President Wade Carson explained that “this program will be our fourth successful collaboration with Asmar, including the design of the venerable AP 41 AQUILES, one of the vessels that, after a successful and historic trajectory, will replace the ESCOTILLÓN IV program […] Vard Marine has a long and successful track record in designing specialized vessels adapted to meet unique combinations of user requirements and operating environments. The award of this contract is an important step to further consolidate the company's position in the global naval market as a proven design of specialized customer-centric multifunctional vessels.”

Taiwanese shipbuilder CSBC Corporation has launched the first of a planned class of four landing platform dock (LPD) vessels for the Republic of China Navy (RoCN).

Named Yu Shan (also spelled Yushan) (with pennant number 1401), the 153 m-long amphibious transport ship, construction of which began in May 2019, entered the water on 13 April in a ceremony held at the company’s facilities in the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung and presided over by President Tsai Ing-wen.

A keel-laying ceremony for the vessel, which is being built under a TWD4.635 billion (USD162.7 million) contract awarded to CSBC in April 2018, was held in June 2020.

The vessel, which is the first LPD to be built in Taiwan, has a beam of 23 m and a standard displacement of 10,000 tonnes. It is scheduled to be handed over to the navy in the first half of 2022 to support amphibious operations and transport missions. It is also expected to be deployed on peacetime missions, including for humanitarian-assistance and disaster-relief operations.

Não é NATO, mas é barato e já vem com o conceito duplo uso.

The scale model shows a 76mm main gun at the bow, two PHALANX CIWS (one forward, one aft on top the hangar) and probably the most unique feature for this future class of ship (and likely a first for an amphibious transport dock): 2×4 missile launchers amidship, likely for 2×8 TC-2N SAM and 2×2 Hsiung Feng II or III anti-ship missiles.

A ideia é serem copias de San Antonio Class mas a custar 1/3.
