HALIFAX – General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is pleased to announce the induction of the first of five P-3C aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force for upgrade alongside CCC (Canadian Commercial Corporation) at IMP Aerospace & Defence facilities in Halifax. General Dynamics will leverage their Airborne Data Management System to modify the communications and mission electronics. This system, developed entirely in Canada, has been installed on over 50 Canadian and allied aircraft. Drawing from Canada’s investment in the newly modernized CP-140 Block IV, the modifications will allow the Portuguese Air Force, as a NATO member, to maintain the capabilities required to contribute to new and existing missions. IMP Aerospace will perform the installation of the new systems and collaborate with General Dynamics to test the upgrades in early 2024.

E serão exatamente as 5 células que já temos, ou apenas 3/4, a que se poderão juntar 1/2 das que agora adquirimos à Alemanha?

O que está contratualizado é a execução de trabalhos em 5 células. Quais serão? Pois, isso ainda é uma incógnita, até porque não deu para perceber até agora muito bem os moldes do negócio com os alemães (entenda-se, células em condições de voo). No entanto, não me admiraria nada se fossem 3 CUP+ (o 14808 que já lá se encontra, o 14809 e o 14810) e 2 CUP II ex-Marinha Alemã.

Estar modernização é só sistemas.

Com a compra aos Alemães é que vieram kits de modernização (assas novas), mas ainda não é certo que sejam aplicados.

Relembro que 4 dos 6 P3 orion Alemães vêem em condições para integrarem na 601, ou seja vêem em condições para fazer missoes e engrossar o efectivo da força de Patrulhamento, luta anti-submarina, bem como  fiscalização, busca e salvamento.
Portanto bem podemos aumentar o efectivo de  5 para  9 aeronaves, claro que ira obrigar a uma profunda vistoria, nas mesmas...antes que estas sejam entregues a Esquadra os Lobos.

Isso não vai acontecer, por mais vezes que aqui o escreva. Serão 5 aeronaves, na loucura talvez 6, e não mais do que isso.

Não é assim que se garante a sustentação de uma frota por mais década ou década e meia de uma aeronave em rápido desaparecimento.

The addition of new systems results in a significant modification of the original aerodynamic profile of the aircraft. These modifications consist of:

Por ca o que conta vieram 6 unidades e dessas, quatro estao em perfeitas condições para voar...se Portugal optar so por manter o efectivo actual e existente ai concordo plenamente, mas penso que seria uma estupidez nao usar esses mesmos para reforçar o patrulhamento nos Arquipelagos, mas eles é que sabem o uso que irão dar aos P 3 Germanicos.
