Commando unit wants new 'super rifle'
IDF Navy's elite Shayetet 13 soldiers receive a new multi-terrain vest, with new MCX rifles possibly on the way to replace 5 different kinds of rifles currently in use by the unit's highly-trained marksmen.

IDF commando unit Shayetet 13 was recently given new equipment intended to unify and simplify its combat gear.
 
The new eqipment includes a vest made to be carried in parched, damp and wet terrain, does not soak up water and that keeping soldiers nimble, and is considered resistant when crawling across sand, through tiny crevices, or when continuously squatting during a stakeout.
 
Its various compartments can fit an array of different-sized weaponry, from heavy-duty Grenades and small explosive charges, through observation and surveillance devices, to cartridges, a commando knife and a water drinking kit.

"When you look at a Shayetet 13 soldier, you see a well-equipped warrior, different from how they were five or ten years ago," officers from the Navy's elite units explained. "A warrior today must perform in more kinds of special missions, with more kinds of technological equipment that he carries on his body, while still needing to be lethal and secretive. This is why everything is made smaller and more advanced. The new vest allows fast and catlike movement."

The IDF has also begun examining a new brand of "super rifle," which may replace the individual rifles of the unit's most elite and highly trained warriors in the foreseeable future . The multi-purpose MCX rifle by US company SIG Sauer is one such weapon, considered by the IDF for its ability to hit its target for several different distances. The rifle is due to arrive within the next few months.

"Each warrior in the unit presently has four-to-five different (individual—ed) weapons, when ten years ago each warrior had three-to-four," sources in the navy said, explaining the wish to scale down and offer more versatile options, both in terms of range, lethalness and the weapon's ability to work in "silence" mode.

Additionally, having each soldier responsible for less types of weapons will require less training time and less types of training.
 

"Our warrior is our main resource, and their time is valuable and important," navy sources stated, explaning that "at present, we put weeks into their marksman abilities."

Barrett has given us early access to the new REC10 rifle. We’ve been sitting on this one for a while and it’s a doozy.

Barrett may be best known for its .50 BMG and its MRAD, but the manufacturer also makes some of the best designed and well-built AR rifles available. My earliest testing of the REC7, one of the first reliable and duty ready 6.8 SPC rifles, proved Barrett’s ability to build a combat ready AR.

Barrett builds some of the finest rifles out there and its latest, the REC10, is no exception.

Shooting the rifle 16-inch carbine at the first ever Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous in Gateway, Colo., provided first-hand experience.

REC10 Build

Barrett’s REC10 starts with precision-machined billet upper and lower receivers. Perfectly matched, each is built with weight savings in mind without compromising strength. Controls are ambidextrous including the bolt catch, magazine release and 45-degree safety.

The ALG Defenses QMS (Quality Mil-Spec) trigger is crisp, predictable and completely reliable under the harshest conditions. The matching BRS M-Lok handguard is slim, strong and light. It also accommodates needed accessories.

Using an intermediate gas system on the button rifled 16-inch barrel makes for soft shooting. Chrome lined and made from CMV steel keeps the rifle accurate and long lasting.

Barrett’s flash hider mitigates flash and directs blast. The bolt carrier is DLC-coated, keeping the direct impingement gas system clean running under any condition.

A mil-spec buffer tube houses a hydraulic buffer and holds a Magpul MOE SL stock.

Available in Black, Flat Dark Earth, or Tungsten Grey, the rifle ships in a Barrett-branded soft case with one Magpul 20-round magazine and Magpul UIS sights installed.

MSRP for the REC10 Carbine is $2,750.

On the Range

Running the REC10 at the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous, it was accurate with Barrett’s proven reliability. Incredibly light, it points well and allowed for hits on steel at 100 yards and further using the iron sights.

Brass ejects with authority in the proper direction. Fit and finish were excellent with great attention to detail throughout. It balanced well in the hands, pointed quickly and shouldered easily.

Available chambering includes .308, 6.5 Creedmoor and .260 Remington, which means the REC10 has all of the most popular cartridges covered.

Along with the standard version, a LR version will be offered using a 20-inch stainless steel match barrel with a PRSIII stock and Geissele SSA trigger.

Pekín está desplegando una nueva y costosa arma que marcará
una importante mejora largamente esperada en el equipo del
soldado.
El presidente chino Xi Jinping, que también dirige la Comisión Militar Central,
habría aprobado la compra de un nuevo y poderoso fusil valorado en medio
millón de yuanes (78.000 dólares) durante su reciente visita a un equipo de
combate de infantería bajo del Comando Central del Ejército Popular de
Liberación.
El arma de gran envergadura, forma parte del sistema QTS­11 del EPL, y es
el resultado de una década de esfuerzos meticulosos para ponerse al día en
la carrera para armar a los soldados, emulando el programa Land Warrior
del Ejército de los EE.UU. y el interrumpido objetivo de Armas de Combate
Individual del PLA apodado ZH­05.
Con un peso aproximado de 5 kilogramos, los fusiles son de calibre 5,8
milímetros, integrados con lanzagranadas de 20 mm, y son capaces de
disparar a objetivos en un radio de 200 metros de forma similar a una
ametralladora, según el diario Science and Technology Daily, con sede en
Beijing.



Junto con otros equipos portátiles como las cámaras térmicas, los
telémetros láser, el ordenador portátil y los cascos de posicionamiento, la
comunicación y control de la situación, todo el kit completo QTS­11 cuesta
un total de 1 millón de yuanes por unidad. Ya ha sido entregado a unos

el periódico Ming Pao de Hong Kong.
Se trata de un ensayo de 500 millones de yuanes destinado a aumentar la
fuerza de combate, con énfasis en un soldado de infantería individual como
una unidad completa y no como un segmento de una fuerza más grande en
acciones de guerra urbana y acciones de infantería desarmada.



En un programa de noticias de la Televisión Central de China, Xi pareció
interesarse mucho por el arma grande que se exhibía e incluso miró por el
visor y apuntó el fusil a un objetivo, según las instrucciones de un soldado.
Después de esto, queda por ver cuándo el QTS­11 puede desplegarse para
equipar a más tropas en unidades de infantería PLA.

US Army: next-generation assault rifle will pack a punch like a tank's main gun

The goal, as Col. Geoffrey A. Norman, force development division chief at Army HQ, claimed it, is to equip infantry soldiers with an automatic rifle “that fires a small bullet at the pressure equivalent to what a tank would fire.”

The US Army announced its new assault rifle will unleash a hailstorm of specially-designed shells with as much chamber pressure as a battle tank gun to tear through even the most advanced body armor. Colonel Norman said the new weapon might be delivered with two per nine-man infantry squad, starting in fiscal year 2022 instead of 2025.

Indeed, the Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle (NGSAR) — the first version in the Army’s Next-Generation Weapons System that chambers a round between 6.5mm and 6.8mm — appears to be a potential replacement for its 80,000 M249 SAWs (the Squad Automatic Weapon is a US production of the Belgian FN Herstal Minimi, which stands for Mini-Mitrailleuse, mini-machine gun).

The NGSAR will weigh less, shoot farther, and pack more punch than the service’s existing infantry weapons. More importantly, the platform will incorporate a chamber pressure superior to the current system in soldiers’ arsenals to ensure that the rounds can still blast through enhanced enemy body armor at up to 600 meters.

The chamber pressure for the standard M4 assault rifle is around 45 KSI (kilopound per square inch), but the NGSAR’s pressure should range between 60 and 80 KSI, the same order as for a 120mm shell fired by an M1A1/A2 Abrams.

The NGSW systems is currently undergoing testing and evaluation by the Soldier Lethality Cross-Functional Team at Fort Benning, Georgia. It will initially head downrange with the 7.62mm XM11158 Advanced Armor Piercing (ADVAP) round while the army aims at a specialized round built to achieve the proper balance between range and lethality.

A crucial aspect of the NGSW program is the fire control system, developed independently from the receiver and chamber. The system will adjust and potentially only fire when the muzzle will line up with its target. It will take into account atmospheric conditions, even automatically center the weapon using an internal system. We’re looking to get these capabilities ready as soon as possible.
