Part one of a 3d Survey at Batterie Moltke. This is Gun number 2's Type M151 Personnel Shelter. Click the dollhouse or floor plan option for an amazing insight to this bunker. Part two coming soon.

Battery Moltke or Batterie Moltke is an uncompleted World War II former coastal artillery battery in St Ouen in the north west of Jersey.[1] It was constructed by Organisation Todt for the Wehrmacht during the Occupation of the Channel Islands.

The battery structures include bunkers, gun emplacements and the Marine Peilstand 3 tower, which are located on Les Landes, a coastal heathland area at the north end of St Ouen's Bay.[2] The bunker was left unfinished at the end of the war, when completed there would have been an M132 Command Bunker like at Battery Lothringen and the main armament would have consisted of 4x 15 cm SK C/28.

The primary purpose of this battery would have been the defence of St Ouen's Bay in the event of an amphibious assault by the Allies, although Jersey's entire coastline would have been within range of the guns, as would the stretch of water between Jersey and Sark.

The George Cross remains one of the highest military honors that can be given in the United Kingdom.  Second only to the Victoria Cross, it was created in 1940 at the height of the German blitz on London a manner to recognize the great civilian courage it took to endure those dark days.  As such, it has a particular civilian emphasis while still being given to members of the military for actions that don’t quite fit a traditional military honor.

It is a high honor for an individual to receive the George Cross and an even more fascinating award when you consider it was given to an entire island nation at once.  For this is the story of the people of Malta, the island nation that defied the Fuhrer.

The Island Fortress of Malta
Granted, Malta was not its own sovereign state at the time, but the people of Malta certainly comprised a nation by any definition.  Malta has long been at the crossroads of history given its unique position in the Mediterranean and has been the target of heroes and despots alike.  Only 122 square miles in size, this small piece of real estate would prove to play a role disproportionate to its size in the course of human events.

The DUKW was originally turned down by the US military until a Coast Guard patrol ship ran aground on a sand bar. An experimental DUKW was in the area and was able to rescue the seven crew members. Later, the DUKW was able to prove its abilities in the English Channel.

The DUKW, also known as the “Duck,” was a six-wheeled amphibious vehicle used in World War II by the US military for transporting good and personnel over water.

It was excellent at approaching and crossing beaches. The DUKW was only intended to last long enough for combat.

The SRD operations – one of the greatest intelligence failures in Australian history!

In early 1942, as the war situation appeared to become more and more critical, Australia’s government agreed to the establishment of an organisation, the Inter-Allied Services Department (ISD) which later became. Special Operations Australia (SOA) and, in 1943, was yet again retitled as the Services Reconnaisance Department (SRD) of the Allied Intelligence Bureau (AIB), the latter formed by MacArthur’s General Headquarters, South West Pacific Area (GHQ, SWPA). Given the multiple titles given to the organisation between 1941 and 1944 we will use the title SRD throughout to reduce confusion.

SRD’s brief was to conduct HUMINT operations behind enemy lines as well as sabotage and other direct action. This decision mixed two types of activity that do not mix. The first was the collection of intelligence, an undertaking that requires a quiescent target and sits uneasily with the second, the conduct of sabotage, disruption and propaganda operations to harass and annoy the very same target. These two activities cannot be run at the same time, as the experience of the SRD amply demonstrates.

Embora o fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial tenha marcado a derrota do regime nazi, muitos europeus continuaram a viver sob regimes totalitários durante várias décadas.
