At the coordination scientific council it was stated that the leadership of the Ministry of Defense decided to adopt both 6P67, 6P68, AK-12 and AK-15 automatic weapons. Products JSC “V.A. Degtyarev ” have the best performance when firing from an unstable position, they are recommended for various special forces. The products of OA “Concern” Kalashnikov “by the criterion” of simplicity and reliability “are more suitable for combined arms units and subunits.”

Russia's new Bakhcha-U-PDS parachute test trials enter final stage.
March 2018

Beginning from 2018 the latest Russian combat airborne vehicles - BMD-4M will land on the battlefield with the crew inside. It will be possible after the creation of a platformless parachute is completed. Experts say such hardware airdrop will considerably decrease combat engagement time, the Izvestia daily writes.

The Bakhcha-U-PDS parachute system being tested with a BMD-4M armored vehicle

The Russian Defense Ministry told the newspaper the 106th airborne division will hold a tactical exercise in August. BMD-4M will for the first time be airdropped with the crew. In future such assault will become a major element of combat engagement and paratrooper training process.

The platformless PBS-950U (Bakhcha-U-PDS) parachute was designed for BMD-4M. The Technodinamika Holding confirmed the test trials have entered the final stage.

PBS-950U comprises the parachute of 11 cupolas with a space of 350 square meters each and a shock absorber. Minimal airdrop altitude is 400 meters and the time to landing comprises only 40 seconds. A paratrooper lands from such an altitude in 90 seconds. Therefore, safe landing is impossible without shock absorber.

"Multi-cupola parachute system MKS-350-12 of series 2 and forced air-inflation absorber are used to ensure reliability and failure-free operation of the parachute, as well as crew safety inside the vehicle," Technodinamika said.

"The technical possibility of airdropping the crew and paratroopers inside BMD-4M and BTR-MDM is envisaged. The requirement was initially set for the parachute and the vehicles. Maximum landing overload does not exceed 15g which was confirmed by experiments," it added.

The "forced inflation" quickly fills the absorber with air and cushions the landing shock. Additional crew safety is provided by upgraded seats in BMD-4M. They resemble aircraft pilot or cosmonaut seats and a sophisticated seat belt system fastens the paratroopers. Acceptance trials were held from 2016 and the parachute operated successfully in the mountains, extreme climate, temperatures and weather.

Expert Valery Yuryev said BMD landing with the crew gives a major edge in combat. It is a Russian tactical know-how as other armies drop the hardware and paratroopers separately. "To achieve surprise it is necessary to land hardware with the crew. It takes minimal time to engage the vehicles in combat," he said.

Crew airdrop inside the vehicles remains very dangerous despite the latest parachutes. "An ordinary cupola is simple and reliable and the standby parachute can correct the error. The parachutes for hardware have a lot of knots which decrease the reliability. Each crewmember has a standby parachute but it is difficult to use it if the main one fails. There is no time for it," he said.

The first airdropping in the world of BMD-1 with the crew inside took place on January 23, 1976 at the range of Tula training center of the 106th airborne division, the Izvestia recalled.

Russian Armata modern tanks production delayed due to high cost

he Russian armed forces pushed back plans of mass production of the Armata next-generation main battle tanks due to a high cost of new combat vehicles, according to the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov.

On 29 July, the Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said that the Russian armed forces do not aspire to purchase the tanks of “Armata” in large quantities because of their high cost, preferring to increase the combat potential of existing military vehicles due to its modernization.

“Well, why flood the all Armed Forces with the Armata tanks, we have the T-72s in great demand in the market, they take it all, compared to the Abrams, Leclercs and Leopards, for their price, efficiency and quality, It’s the same situation with “Boomerangs,” – Yury Borisov told.

“We don’t really need to for this (mass purchases of new tanks – ed.), these models are quite expensive in relation to existing ones,” – noted the Deputy Prime Minister.

To date, Russian defence funds were diverted into the modernisation of older armoured vehicles and Russia’s army decided to upgrade its fleet of Soviet-designed T-72, T-80 and T-90 main battle tanks. Russia returned and creates new tank’s brigades equipped with updated upgraded T-72B3, T-80BVM and T-90M main battle tanks.

Russia’s Armata next-generation main battle tank is a departure from the previous Soviet practice of developing relatively simple, inexpensive but specialized platforms.

Featuring a number of innovative characteristics, the T-14 Armata represents a new generation of Russian main battle tanks. The most significant novelty is an unmanned turret, with the crew of three seated in an armored capsule in the front of the hull.

Os Russos estão a descobrir que armamento complexo e avançado custa um bom dinheiro...

Vejam o que se passa com o SU-57 ou com o Armata (as várias versões).

Russia has unveiled a variant of the T-15 heavy infantry fighting vehicle (HIFV) fitted with a 57 mm auto-cannon set in a remote turret at the Army 2018 exhibition being held in Kubinka, near Moscow, on 21-26 August.

The cannon is most likely based on that used by the previous AU-220M combat module. The cannon itself is based on an advanced version of the AZP-57 used by the S-60 towed anti-aircraft (AA) gun system.

The turret is equipped with an independent panoramic commander sight and an independently traversable gunner sight. The main armament is complemented by a coaxial machine gun and a bank of two 9M120-1 Ataka laser-beam-riding and/or radio-frequency-link guided missiles located on the right-hand side of the turret.

The 57 mm cannon can be fitted with a thermal sleeve. Various sensor arrays are mounted on the upper chassis and arranged around the turret, with optical sensors to detect threats such as laser illumination, in addition to six radar sensor blocks. The two larger radar sensors are thought to be linked to the hard-kill portion of the Afghanit active protection system (APS) that covers the frontal arc. The remaining four smaller blocks are thought to be used by the soft-kill part of the Afghanit APS, covering a full 360° circle around the vehicle.

Rostec’s Russian Helicopters holding has developed a common standard for Mi-24 modernisation, a company representative told Jane’s at the Army 2018 defence exhibition being held in Kubinka near Moscow on 21–26 August.

“In an effort to reduce the large number of Mi-24 upgrades, we have developed a common standard designated the Mi-35P. It is in fact a less expensive variant of the Mi-35M combat helicopter,” the representative said.

The Mi-35P has received the OPS-24N-1L with a third generation long-wave matrix thermal imager, TV camera, and laser rangefinder. The upgraded gunship’s cockpit has the KNEI-24E-1 flight navigation system with multifunctional displays. The PKV-8-35 digital flight system increases the helicopter’s manoeuvrability and steadiness. “The modernised gunship is also fitted with the updated PrVK-24-2 targeting system, which allows the use of 9M127-1 Ataka-VM anti-tank guided missiles [ATGMs],” the representative added.

The helicopter has also received a chin-mounted NPPU-23 turret with a twin-barrel GSh-23L automatic cannon.
