Vaisala’s Automated Weather Observing System chosen for Gulf of Mexico platform

Vaisala, Inc.’s Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) will be installed on the BP Atlantis Deepwater Oil Platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

Vaisala’s AWOS III system was purchased by Stratos, the Communication System Integrator for all four of BP’s deepwater oil platforms.  Vaisala’s system will be used to report aviation weather conditions to assist incoming helicopters for BP Atlantis.

Stratos will be designing all mounting systems for the AWOS system and will be responsible for design documentation, installation and commissioning of Vaisala’s AWOS system.  The expected completion date is third quarter, 2005.  The system will report temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, wind gusts, visibility, cloud height and sky condition, precipitation and density altitude.
