USS Milwaukee LCS 5 was built by Marinette Marine in Wisconsin. Its keel was laid October 27, 2011 and it was launched December 18, 2013. After commissioning in Milwaukee November 21, 2015 it made its way down the Great Lakes stopping in Detroit for the US Thanksgiving weekend. The tug Océan Ross Gaudreault met the ship in Lake Erie and escorted it down through the Seaway to Montreal. (The first ship in the series, USS Freedom got banged up a bit when it locked through the Seaway in 2008.)

Navy. Eram os chamados "Flattops of the great lakes".

According to local media, Switzerland is now set to acquire 14 Watercat 1250 Patrol boats from the Finnish manufacturer Marine Alutech.
The move was not welcomed by the Swiss media as they interpreted it as a waste of money due to the fact that the boats have no significant use.
A Swiss Federal Department of Defense (VBS) spokesman however was reported as saying that the government intended to modernize its existing naval force according to the Swiss armed forces development plan from 2014.
Financial reasons delayed the acquisition of the boats, the spokesman said. Now that country gave up on acquiring Gripen aircraft, it is able to buy the new boats.
According to the Swiss news portal 20 Minuten the 14 boats will cost 49 million Swiss Franc (approx. $51 million). The deal is yet to be approved by the government.
The Watercat 1250 Patrol boats that Switzerland intends to acquire are 12 meters long and propelled by two 228 kW diesel-engines. The boats are intended to be equipped with a 12,7mm machine gun station.
The small unit riverine craft (SURC) is rigid-hull, armed and armored patrol boat used by the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy to maintain control of rivers and inland waterways. They are similar in size and purpose to the much older Patrol Boat, River vessels used during the Vietnam War.(https://www.stripes.com/polopoly_fs/1.84463.1273639949!/image/4045038795.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_900/4045038795.jpg)
According to the Navy, “The primary mission of the SURC is to provide tactical mobility and a limited weapons platform for the ground combat element of a Marine Air Ground Task Force in littoral and riverine environments.”[4] The boat’s secondary mission includes “command and control, reconnaissance, logistic/resupply, medevac, counter-drug operations, humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping, and noncombatant evacuation operations.”[4]
The boat is transportable by C-130 Hercules aircraft and can be launched from its trailer at lakeside.
The boats were first deployed to Iraq and were used there by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. The United States Navy Riverine Squadrons, units of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) used the boats to patrol strategic areas of Iraq.
The boats are built by Raytheon Naval & Maritime Integrated Systems, with a contract to build up to 100 boats. Raytheon’s contract partners are SAFE Boats International of Bremerton, Washington and Boat Master of Fort Myers, Florida.
On Sept. 25 2013, the United States transferred six SURC patrol boats to the Philippine Marine Corps to provide a platform for command and control, reconnaissance, logistic/resupply, medical evacuation, counter-drug operations, humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping and non-combatant evacuation operations & will be deployed to augment sea-based forces addressing terrorism and lawlessness.[5]
It also has the capability to turn 180 degrees in less than three boat lengths and accelerate to 25 knots (46 km/h) in less than 15 seconds

The Lao People's Navy (LPN) is the navy of Laos. In 1975 the Lao People's Navy (LPN) was established with the remnants of the Royal Lao Navy. The Lao People's Navy operates vessels on the Mekong River, a major feature of the country's geography. Because the Mekong makes up a considerable portion of the Lao border, the Navy is significantly involved in border control work. The navy as of the mid-1990s had a personnel strength of around 500 and around fifty river patrol boats.
Almost all officers of the Lao People's Navy were trained in the Vietnam Naval Academy.[1]

1 - The Lao government reported receiving approximately 40 riverine patrol craft in 1985 from the Soviet Union. At least some of these were Sheml-class torpedo boats, but other types were also reported to have been received. In addition, it is likely that some number of riverine craft supplied by the US during the 1960s and 1970s remain in service, though likely with the benefit of significant overhauls.

Bujumbura - Fifty rebels were killed in Burundi this week when the navy sank a boat they were travelling in on Lake Tanganyika, a military source said on Friday.
The incident took place at dawn on Wednesday near the port town of Nyanza-lac in southwest Burundi, army spokesman Colonel Augustin Nzabampema said.
"A military vessel attacked two rebel boats, one was sunk with the crew and rebels it was carrying, while the second managed to escape to Ubwari, a lake island in the Democratic Republic of Congo," explained the spokesman.
The island is allegedly used as a haven by Burundian rebels of the Forces for the Defence of Democracy.
Fishing has been banned since Wednesday in Burundian waters of the lake for "security reasons".
"Rebels were stepping up attacks on civilian boats, they even attacked a Tanzanian boat," the spokesman said.
"It is hard to tell the fishing boats from the rebel boats," he added.

Pebane (P-001) ex-Spanish navy Dragonera (P-32) ( 85 tons, 32 meters ) transferred after refit 2012 from the Spanish Navy[18] for a symbolic price (€100).
There are about 2000 personnel in the navy. In September 2004 it was reported that the South African Navy was to donate two of its Namacurra class harbour patrol boat to the Mozambique Navy. The boats were refitted by the naval dockyard at Simon's Town and equipped with outboard motors and navigation equipment donated by the French Navy. The French Navy Durance class command and replenishment oiler Marne (A360) was to deliver the boats to Maputo en route to its ALINDIEN operational area in the Indian Ocean after a refit in Cape Town.[19]
In 2013, the French shipyard CMN Group confirmed a major order by Mozambique, including 6 patrol vessels & interceptors.[20]

COLONIA, Yap – Two Mark VI patrol boats, attached to Coastal Riverine Squadron (CRS) 2, along with the Island-class Patrol Boat USCGC Kiska arrived in Colonia, Yap July 3 for a port visit.
This visit allows CRS-2, assigned to Coastal Riverine Group (CRG) 1, Det. Guam, a chance to train with our Coast Guard partners and build upon existing training conducted in Guam and Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Island.
“Our Coastal Riverine Sailors will be able to enjoy some much needed down time in Yap, said CRS-2 Patrol Officer Lt. Max Duncan, a native of Ithaca, New York. “We have visited Yap multiple times this year, and were treated with the highest levels of hospitality. We hope to continue strengthening our bilateral relationship with Yap and the rest of FSM [Federated States of Micronesia]. Additionally, the opportunity to work with the United States Coast Guard in and around FSM continues to strengthen our inter-branch relationships and enable us to complete more significant operations in the future.”
During the visit, CRS-2 Sailors delivered basic preventive medical supplies needed by the Yap state first responders.
“During our previous visit to Yap we asked the Yap State Police Chief if they needed any medical supplies,” said Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Marcus Tschauner, a native of Suffolk, Virginia. “We used this opportunity to bring them the preventive medical supplies they needed. We gave them basic PPE [personal protective equipment] like gloves and face masks that will allow them to be protected while taking care of emergency patients.”
The Yap State Police Chief, Daniel G. Ramngen, said that he was thankful for the supplies the CRS-2 Sailors gave them and the life support training they provided for them during the last visit to Yap.
“The life support training they [CRS-2 Sailors] provided during the last trip, helped us keep a recent suicide victim alive,” said Ramangen. “I am thankful to the Navy for everything, I hope we can keep this relationship going strong for many years.”
The Mark VI patrol boat is an integral part of the expeditionary forces support to 7th Fleet, capability of supporting myriad of missions throughout the Indo-Pacific.
Since Navy Expeditionary Forces Command Pacific’s (NEFCPAC) creation in January 2015, expeditionary forces in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) region have become completely integrated into the seventh fleet combat readiness scheme and have built and maintained multinational partnerships that have been providing regional stability and security for more than seventy years.
As an organization, NEFCPAC executes operational command and control of assigned and attached Navy Expeditionary Combat Forces in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations and serves as the core Navy battle staff for crisis response and major combat operations. They plan and execute coastal riverine, explosive ordnance disposal, diving operations, construction and Navy expeditionary logistics operations.
NEFCPAC is capable of providing the fleet diverse warfighting capabilities such as coastal riverine support, explosive ordnance disposal, diving, salvage and construction capabilities, as well as expeditionary intelligence and logistics in near-shore waters, littoral regions and inland areas.
Safe Boats International, LLC, Bremerton, Washington, is being awarded a $34,5 million firm-fixed-price contract for the construction of four MK VI Patrol Boats.
Estes navios não fazem a mesma função dos Tejo. No entanto seriam um belo complemento, nomeadamente a Sul, na entrada do Mediterrâneo, e nas ilhas.
Mark VI Patrol Boats Sail 500 Nautical Miles in Record Transit
Two Navy Mark VI Patrol Boats recently completed a 500 nautical mile transit from Guam, showing Navy planners in the region that the boats could reach nearby island groups to conduct maritime security patrols and disaster relief efforts.
The Mark VI Patrol Boats are intended to be used to patrol littoral areas outside sheltered harbors and bays, providing security force assistance, shipping escort, and visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) operations. The long-range transit was within the manufacturer’s stated range of 600 nautical miles, but the boats had never been pushed that hard in the Pacific Ocean. The recent transit was the longest trip ever attempted by a Mark VI Patrol Boat in the Pacific, according to the Navy.
“It’s incredibly valuable to test the endurance of these boats, which will give the crews and leadership confidence in the platform and thereby expanding the operational reach of MK VI to our close and valued partners in the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau,” Lt. Cmdr. Greg Dusetzina, the officer in charge of Coastal Riverine Squadron 3, said in a statement.
The Micronesian island of Yap is about 456 nautical miles from Guam, according to the DistanceFromTo mapping tool. The Navy now knows it can use Mark VI Patrol Boats to bring personnel and supplies to Yap without requiring a larger vessel to accompany them on the trip

While Switzerland does not officially have a navy, it now operates a fleet of brand new patrol boats that will be used to patrol the country’s border lakes and the river Rhine.
Earlier this month, the Swiss Army’s Motor Boat Company 10 (Mot Bootkp 10) received the final of the 14 new Patrol Boat 16 craft.

Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has led to a renewed focus on the geopolitical importance of the Black Sea. What the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has overlooked is Russia’s use—often in coordination with Iran—of the Caspian Sea to advance its war aims in Ukraine. The Caspian Sea offers Russia a strategic depth to strike targets far afield in a relatively safe manner, is currently the only way for Russia to reinforce its Black Sea Fleet, and serves as a transport conduit allowing Iran to deliver military assistance to Russia for use against Ukraine.

The United States last year provided about a dozen of these 34-foot patrol boats that Ukraine uses on the Dnipro River, which runs the length of Ukraine, north to south. However, Russia's navy still dominates the Black Sea off Ukraine's southern coast.

China launches joint patrols along Mekong River with neighbors
Mekong River Delta Defense Force ?
The killing of 13 Chinese sailors on the Mekong river near the Thai-Myanmar border is unreported outside of the region but the event stirred an outcry in China. Chinese citizens once again demand the Chinese government to act. It is also hurting trade, something the Chinese government cares a great deal about.
In addition to joint security operations currently underway, there is talks of a regional riverine force of 1000 (here) with modified cargo and Type 529 Army patrol boats.
The Mekong River, a waterway that originates in China and snakes through five Southeast Asian countries, is emerging as a new security flashpoint, similar in dynamic to escalating conflicts in the South China Sea.

In the latest US weapons package, announced recently by Pentagon, except HIMARS, which is already accurately destroying the rear of the ruscists there was one very unusual position – 18 coastal and river patrol boats that will help the Ukrainian Navy to revive the Dnieper military flotilla. It has now become known which boats are sent to Ukraine.
