Avrupa Minerals reports discovery of new gold target at the Covas JV Project

Avrupa Minerals Ltd. (AVU:TSXV) is pleased to announce the results of geological mapping, sampling, and drill targeting in the Covas Dome portion of the Covas W-Au project in northwestern Portugal. The work program is being funded by Blackheath Resources Inc. under terms of a recently-announced joint venture program at Covas between Blackheath and Avrupa Minerals (see AVU news release dated May 18, 2011). The most important result of the work by senior American-based consultant Bill Fuchs, Ph.D., C.P.G., of SFM Micro is the identification of a significant Reduced Intrusion-Related Gold (RIRG) target in the Covas Dome area. The target area lies along an east-west trending magnetic lineament and presumed structural zone that, at present, measures +900 meters in length by an average of 100 meters in width. The anomalous zone, generally located in an area of thick vegetation and lack of outcrop, is open-ended to both east and west.

. All but one of the 44 samples collected in the anomaly area contained detectable gold, with the best result being 10.2 g/t Au. In addition, many samples contained strongly anomalous silver up to 45.2 ppm Ag, overlimit arsenic greater than 10,000 ppm, and highly anomalous bismuth and lead. Soil samples in the same area also carried anomalous tellurium. Of the 44 samples, eight samples (18%) contained gold values greater than 440 ppb, and 18 samples (41%) contained detectable gold values above 100 ppb. The geochemical signature of the rock sampling results is similar to other RIRG’s found in the Tintina Gold Belt of the US and Canada.

THE QUESTION THAT WON’T GO AWAY: GERMANY’S GOLD: AN UPDATE

As you know, I’ve been following the Bearer Bonds Scandals, and the German gold audit story, for some time on this website, and many of you are likewise doing so, and now sending me information. Well, this one comes from a reader of this website, and it came to me as I was scheduling this two weeks’ worth of blogs. In a post a few days ago I pointed out how Zero Hedge, in an article on the German gold audit, suggested strong evidence that the Bank of England had been involved in a scheme to defraud the Bundesbank of its gold, by shipping subpar gold to the German central bank.

Well, now it seems that there is further confirmation of this story:

Exclusive: Bank Of England To The Fed: “No Indication Should, Of Course, Be Given To The Bundesbank…”

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2012-11-0 ... bundesbank

I hope you caught the end of this article and those significant paragraphs, but in case you didn’t, here they are once again:

“And while others engage in click-baiting using grotesque hypotheses of grandure without any actual investigation, reporting or error and proof-checking to build up hype and speculation, which promptly fizzles and in the process desensitizes the general public and those actually undecided and/or on the fences about what truly goes on behind the scenes, Zero Hedge travelled (metaphorically) in space – to London, or specifically the Bank of England Archives – and in time, to May 1968 to be precise.

“While there we dug up a certain memo, coded C43/323 in the BOE archives, official title “GOLD AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE OFFICE FILE: FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK (FRBNY) – MISCELLANEOUS”, dated May 31, 1968, written by a certain Mr. Robeson addressed to the BOE’s Roy Bridge as well as its Chief Cashier, and whose ultimate recipient is Charles Coombs who at the time was the manager of the open market account at the Fed, responsible for Fed operations in the gold and FX markets.

“This memo, more than any of the other spurious and speculative accusation about Buba’s golden hoard, should disturb German citizens, and of course the Bundesbank (assuming it was not already aware of its contents), as the memo lays out, without any shadow of doubt, that the BOE and the Fed, effectively conspired to feed the Bundesbank due gold bars that were of substantially subpar quality on at least one occasion in the period during the Bretton-Woods semi-gold standard (which ended with Nixon in August 1971)” (Emphasis in the original)

Now this is more than just hugely significant, for the implication here is that two of the world’s most important, and largest central banks – the Bank of England, and the Federal Reserve, or at least, its New York Branch – are involved in an international scheme of fraud. But to what purpose?

I have been suggesting, along with Catherine Austin Fitts and some others, that we are looking at a hidden system of finance, a huge slush fund, that funds covert operations and activities of all sorts.  Given the role of the Exchange Stabilization Fund, part of this operation antedates World War Two, and indeed, if one recalls the pithy observations of interwarReichsbank president Hjalmar Schacht, it  isn’t the first time the Anglo-American bankers were playing fast and loose with Germany’s gold. Schacht, it will be recalled, dismissed the whole thing as “an amusing incident,” but he was far too byzantine a man to ignore the effect of his words on “those in the know.” Interesting that his niece wound up marrying SS Lt. Col. Otto Skorzeny, and that Schacht himself ended up working for….Aristotle Onassis. Draw what connections or conclusions from that strange constellation as you will.

In any case, I digress: what we are looking at is something indelibly intertwined with the postwar American national security state, and therefore, indelibly intertwined with its military-industrial-intelligence complex. So it is, perhaps, time to speak in a parable, or via an analogy. If one puts a certain amount of electricity into a circuit, a large portion of that input should appear at the load end of the circuit. We may call this electricity, “Quantitative easing.” With all the quantitative easing going on over the last few years, where’s the Weimar style inflation so confidently predicted by some many pundits that should have appeared long before now?

….unless, of course, the current is going somewhere else, and the load end isn’t where we think it to be….

THE GERMAN GOLD PROBLEMS CONTINUE: NEW QUESTIONS, NEW OBFUSCATIONS

November 16, 2012 By Joseph P. Farrell

In spite of assurances from the Bundesbank to the Federal Reserve that the gold audit questions Germans and the German government are raising will eventually go away, it doesn’t look that that will be happening any time soon, as new questions continue to be asked on the internet. Here, for example, are two crucial articles, and they deserve a very close look and analysis. Indeed, in the latter article – long but crucial – there is a detail that connects a great many dots, if you know what dots there are:

Some Follow-Up Questions For The Bundesbank, And Its Gold

James Turk – The Entire German Gold Hoard Is Gone

Let’s begin with a few quotation from the first article and note what they mean:

“1. Thiele says:

“By 1956, the gold reserves had risen to DM 6.2 billion, or 1,328 tonnes; upon its foundation in 1957, the Bundesbank took over these reserves. No further gold was added until the 1970s”

“This is factually incorrect. From a documented source such as Timothy Green’s gold reserves report from 1999 (source), we find that German gold reserves were 1,328 tonnes in 1956 and contined to rise every year until 1969 when they hit 4034 tonnes, an increase of 200% since 1956! Offical German gold in 1970 was 3,537 tonnes and declined to 2,963 by 1979. Since then it has increased by just 400 tonnes.”

In other words, Thiele is confirming – from the mouth of a central banker – that theme which i have hypothesized here over and over: either the central banks do not know the actual amount of gold, or those amounts are being deliberately obfuscated to cover up a massive fraud. This seems to be confirmed by the next statement:

“2. Thiele says:

“At the beginning of the last decade, we brought 930 tonnes of gold to Frankfurt from London and subjected it to a painstaking inspection. Part of the gold was melted down in order to create new bars which conform with the “Good Delivery Standard”.

“Fact: All gold stored at the Bank of England has to be London Good Delivery Standard. Bars that do not conform are not accepted. That is how the LBMA system works. There is an accepted refiner list. There would be no need to melt down anything from the Bank of England unless the Bundesbank had been duped with coin bars or similar and/or does not have faith in the BOE in the first place.” (Emphasis in the original)

Bingo! Ding ding ding ding ding! “Tyler Durden” at Zero Hedge is correct: what Thiele’s admission in fact means is that the Bundesbank had been defrauded and that the fraud included the Bank of England as either the transhipment point, or point of origin. For reasons I won’t get into here, I believe it to have been the transmission point.  I submit that it is right here that we have the real reason for the concern about the gold reserves in Germany: someone in the German government – someone perhaps even familiar with the 1928 story of Hjalmar Schacht – knew of this fraud and what it portends, and what it portends is nothing less than massive.

Now let’s turn to the second, and much more lengthy article. And I will simply present a few quotations, and for your benefit, the ESF refers to Exchange Stabilization Fund, which is, as the author of this article avers, one of the smoking guns:

“James Turk 2001 – This past December in “The Smoking Gun” I provided substantive proof that the Exchange Stabilization Fund was intervening in the gold market. From publicly available reports prepared by the Federal Reserve, I established that the weight of gold held as a component of the US Reserve Assets has been changing, and that these changes – some of which are of significant size – result from activity by the ESF. These Federal Reserve reports conclusively demonstrate that the ESF has been intervening in the gold market since at least 1996.

“Though these Federal Reserve reports make clear that the ESF is involved in the gold market up to its ‘earmarks’, a lot of people remain skeptical. I don’t know why that is. It is worth noting that many of the most obstinate skeptics who deny US government involvement in the gold market live overseas and have little, if any, experience or understanding of the way the US government really works. But even Americans find it difficult to accept that the US government intervenes in the gold market. Ironically though, they readily admit that the government intervenes in the debt markets, foreign currency markets, and according to a growing number of people, even in the US stock market. It is therefore most baffling that they do not concede the ESF’s involvement in the gold market.”

Now consider this:

“CHAIRMAN GREENSPAN. Could I just formally respond to Governor Lindsey? There is a question here of whether or not the amount the United States Treasury gives us has to be appropriated funds, which I think is really where our examination of the issue has to be. In examining the take-out, we ought to make certain that we talk to them with respect to the question of what happens if they do not get the appropriated funds.

“MR. TRUMAN. Mr. Chairman, the Exchange Stabilization Fund does not have appropriated funds.
CHAIRMAN GREENSPAN. Are we going to be getting a take-out from the Exchange Stabilization Fund?
MR. TRUMAN. I think that is what is in the program.
CHAIRMAN GREENSPAN. Okay.
SPEAKER(?). That is not the same as the Treasury.
MR. TRUMAN. Even if we didn’t, the precedent in the 196Os – I think there was a question then about whether the Treasury could engage in foreign exchange operations outside of the ESF – was the use of Roosa bonds in the 1960s. The Treasury floated Roosa bonds to obtain foreign currencies and used some of those currencies to take us out. That did not involve appropriated funds. That was treated as a debt-management operation.

“The above passage confirms what we already know, but many people refuse to admit. The ESF is a slush fund beyond Congressional oversight.” (Emphasis added)

Just in case you want to know, the Exchange Stabilization Fund was established in 1934 as a result of – you guessed it – FDR’s confiscation of US gold, and thus, as the author correctly deduces, this is a slush fund directly beholden to the American executive and to the financial oligarchy.

In short, you’re looking at part of a financial mechanism that is completely off the books… you’re looking at something that has the potential for massive fraud, and you’re looking at something that could fund a lot of covert activity… and indeed, may have been doing so for a very long time…

A Postcard from Europe
Portugal: Falling Back on Gold

PIIGS. That’s what the international media calls the five European countries of Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain after spiraling debt in these economies forced the world to reset its global recovery clock, and instead rethink the viability of the euro itself. Having always been a quiet performer in Europe, Portugal found itself unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight this year when attention was drawn to its budget deficit, which climbed to 9.4% in 2009. But with 382.5 tons of gold in its coffers, does Portugal have a safety net?

Even as stock markets remain volatile, gold has been the shining star for nervous investors. The precious metal has spiked 11% so far this year and 26% in 2009. Portugal’s 382.5 tons of gold are managed by the Portuguese central bank, Banco de Portugal, and no matter how in debt the country is, a state law prevents the government from laying its hands on the cache or from directly profiting from the assets. Instead, the central bank pays the government an annual dividend each year from any interest it accrues from the gold or any proceeds from sales. Last year, according to Bloomberg, that windfall was $260 million. With this, Portugal has an enviable gold horde, assets that were built up from the time of its former dictator Antonio de Oliveira Salazar’s authoritarian rule. And there is no doubting the preciousness of the asset. Even as Moody’s cut Portugal's sovereign debt ratings by two notches to A1 from Aa2 in July, gold futures surged to $1200 an ounce. But just how useful is gold to Portugal now? The country has the largest gold reserves among any euro nation. It provides the ultimate buffer against any economic eventuality, and an economic meltdown is a real threat considering that Portugal’s bloated deficit might eventually harm its growth prospects.

The country is not a Greece yet, but its problems are similar. Banco de Portugal itself has warned that the economy might grow just 0.9% in 2010 and as little as 0.2% in 2011, stating that there is a 50% chance that the country will re-enter recession next year. The Portuguese government is working hard on its fiscal management, having introduced a number of ‘austerity’ measures through tax hikes, salary pullbacks and spending cuts, in a bid to cut the country’s deficit to 7.3% of the gross domestic product (GDP) this year and 4.6% of the GDP in 2011. Despite Salazar’s follies, he was prudent in accumulating all that gold.

A Holanda e a Alemanha têm valores superiores.
