OLHA A PECHINCHA!!!!!

The Italian Navy is co-hosting what could be described as a secondhand ship show in Italy next month as it retires dozens of seasoned vessels and brings new ships into service. Officials from 11 navies around the world are due to attend the event at the Navy’s La Spezia base May 24-27 to scout for bargains among various classes of vessel, which Italy is hoping to make some much needed money by selling.

Key Points
Indonesia has selected a Chinese-made close-in weapon system for two of its three KCR-60M-class ships
Contract signals a growing adoption of Chinese-made weapons on Indonesian naval platforms
The Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL) has selected the Chinese-developed Type 730 close-in weapon system (CIWS) for the first two of three KCR-60M-class missile attack craft, an industry source told IHS Jane's at the DSA 2016 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur on 18 April and this was corroborated with TNI-AL contacts that are close to the matter.

The vessels, KRI Sampari (628) and KRI Tombak (629) will each be fitted with one stern-facing Type 730 turret that will replace two 20 mm guns currently mounted on the platforms. Sampari and Tombak are currently scheduled to undergo a refit, which will include the installation of these weapons, at PT PAL's premises in Surabaya in September 2016.

The Type 730 CIWS is a radar-guided, seven-barrelled Gatling gun-style system that provides a defensive capability against anti-ship missiles and precision-guided munitions. Variants of the weapons are currently in use with a number of People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) warships including the Type 051C (Luzhou), Type 052B (Luyang I), and Type 052C (Luyang II) destroyer classes, and the Type 054A Jiangkai II-class guided-missile frigates.

Also scheduled for the refit in September is the installation of a Chinese-developed combat management system (CMS) that will be linked to the platform's 57 mm main gun, CIWS and missile launcher systems. The TNI-AL has decided to deploy the Chinese-made C-705 surface-to-surface missiles on the service's KCR-60M platform.

Mozambique Navy has ordered 3 Schiebel S-100 Camcopter vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)  to operate from its Ocean Eagle 43 offshore patrol vessels

The Schiebel Camcopter S-100 is an Austrian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using a rotorcraft design.

Produced by the Austrian company Schiebel, it was developed from 2003 to 2005. With a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 200 kilograms (440 lb), its endurance is 6 hours. It has a maximum speed of 220 kilometres per hour (140 mph) and a ceiling of 5,500 metres (18,000 ft). It is powered by a 55 horsepower (41 kW) Diamond engine and can carry various payloads, such as electro-optics and infrared sensors.

The Ocean Eagle 43 –  trimaran ocean patrol vessel ordered by the Mozambican government was launched in January 2015. The vessel is built by French shipyard CMN (Construction Mecanique de Normandie) to meet the naval operational needs of marines and to support special operations forces.

The Royal Thai Navy receives two new H145M (previously known as the EC645) military helicopters.

The Royal Thai Navy signed for five H145Ms to be deployed on transport duties and other missions, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2016. Its purchase represents the first export order of this militarized version of the EC145 T2, which is the newest and most powerful model in Airbus Helicopters’ proven EC145 light twin-engine helicopter family.

The H145M is equipped with a modern digital glass cockpit, night vision goggle compatability, and Airbus Helicopters’ advanced Helionix® avionics suite with a 4-axis digital autopilot.

Enhancements include an upgraded transmission system and incorporation of Airbus Helicopters’ signature Fenestron® shrouded tail rotor for improved anti-torque control.

For armed operations, the rotorcraft carries a mission computer, two rigid multi-purpose armament pylons that are easily removable, an infrared/TV electro-optical system, and a laser range-finder/designator/pointer. With its open system architecture, this innovative weapon system contributes to full situational awareness for the crew.

Colombian Minister of Defense Luis Carlos Villegas and his Honduran counterpart have signed a memorandum for Colombia's sale of a new landing ship to the Honduran Navy, initiating final negotiations towards a signed contract, Honduras announced on 5 May.

Colombia's state-run COTECMAR would build the vessel, called Buque de Apoyo Logístico - Cabotaje (Short range - Logistic Support Ship: BAL-C), with its 45.8 m-long amphibious landing ship (buque de desembarco anfibio: BDA) design used for ARC Golfo de Tribugá and ARC Golfo de Urabá that are in service with the Colombian Navy, which plans to purchase eight total BDAs.

The ship is to be used for logistic support, humanitarian relief missions, and landing missions.

It can carry up to 200 tons of cargo (with a cargo hold of 50 cubic meters) or up to 14,300 gallons of liquids. The vessel can support 250 personnel on the main deck, adding a protection to cover it, plus 72 more in the cargo hold, and has a four-bed nursery. It has a bow ramp for vehicles and can embark four armoured cars (depending on the configuration) and two 13 m LPR-type riverine patrol boats.

The first strategic sealift vessel (SSV) on order for the Philippine Navy (PN) has departed Surabaya and is now on its way towards Manila, a PT PAL official told IHS Jane's on 9 May.

The landing platform dock-like vessel, which will be the future BRP Tarlac (601), was sent off on the previous day in a ceremony presided over by Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla and representatives from the Philippine government.

Tarlac is the first of two SSVs acquired under a contract worth USD92 million signed in June 2014 between PT PAL and the Philippine government. The vessel was launched in January 2016 and began its first sea trials in April the same year, according to PT PAL.

The platform features an overall length of 123 m, an overall breadth of 21.8 m, and a draft of 5 m. The ship can accommodate a crew of 126, and has a lift capacity for 500 troops. It can also carry up to two 23 m landing craft utility vessels in its well dock, according to specifications provided by PT PAL.

A company official IHS Jane's spoke to in March 2016 during a visit to PT PAL's shipyard in Surabaya confirmed that Tarlac will be delivered to the PN without any weapons attached. However, the vessel has been designed to be armed with one 76 mm gun on the foredeck as the main armament and two stern-facing 25 mm guns.

Tarlac is scheduled to be handed over to the Philippine Department of National Defense in a formal ceremony in Manila on 13 May.

Cargo capacities

The vehicle deck of the ship can house four tanks and four trucks, and two light armoured vehicles, while the well deck can accommodate two landing craft utility (LCU) or landing craft vehicle personnel (LCVP). The vessel can also carry two rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs) on davits.

The stern flight deck can accommodate two medium-sized helicopters. The vessel will also feature a hangar facility for housing a single helicopter.

The SSV can carry 121 crew members and up to 500 marines and their equipment. It will offer accommodation facilities for ship's company and onboard air crew.
