Enquanto os implicados nos maus tratos a prisioneiros iraquianos vão começar a ser julgados e uma onda de indignação, muito justamente, varre o mundo inteiro e os "media" competem para publicar as imagens e os relatos mais chocantes, vi a notícia que um civil norte-americano foi decapitado e o video desta "proeza" anda a circular pela Internet.

Seria bom que também todas as boas consciências, também se sentissem igualmente chocadas com esta atrocidade e também com a morte e esquartejamento de 4 civis americanos em Fallujah ou com os atentados da "resistência" que matam indiscriminadamente civis iraquianos.
Há realmente uma grande diferença, enquanto no primeiro caso os crimes são investigados e os implicados vão a julgamento, há denúncias de organizações humanitárias e dos media, no segundo só há um profundo silêncio.

Muita gente crê que só o regime do Hitler matou aos milhões, mas o regime do Stalin talvéz tenha morto mais ainda. Antes da 2a guerra mundial se iniciar, o Stalin ordenou a matança de milhões de Ucranianos, creio que perto de 6 milhões de pessoas. A matança foi feita através de pelotões de fuzilamento, e através da recusa de alimentação à população da Ucrânia. Vou procurar encontrar o artigo que descreve todo este episódio da história da Ucrânia para que possa ler...ou se alguem encontrar que o ponha por aqui.

Para não falar que matavam os próprios soldados por muito pouco, e deportavam suas famílias... E dos prisioneiros de guerra, os poucos que sobreviviam, só voltaram às suas casas passadas décadas às vezes.  

Mas não fujamos ao assunto.

A questão israelo-palistiniana já está num ciclo vicioso tal que dúvido que se chegue a algum acordo de paz num futuro próximo, é tudo uma questão de saber dar o braço a torcer quanto for tempo disso, provavelmente nunca, porque cada lado acha que possui o legítimo direito de proteger o que é seu.

WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence officials have concluded that terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was the person shown on a video beheading an American civilian in Iraq (news - web sites), based on an analysis of the voice on the video, a CIA (news - web sites) official said Thursday.



Intelligence officials conducted a technical analysis of the video released on an Islamic web site May 11 and determined "with high probability" that the person shown speaking on the tape — wearing a head scarf and a ski mask — is al-Zarqawi, a CIA official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.


The person who is shown speaking in the video — determined to be al-Zarqawi — is then shown on the video decapitating American citizen Nicholas Berg, the official said.


Berg's body was found in Baghdad on Saturday. On Tuesday, an Islamic Web site released the video, titled "Sheikh Abu Musab al-Zarqawi slaughters an American infidel with his own hands."


The speaker on the video, now believed to be al-Zarqawi, reads a lengthy statement criticizing Islamic scholars and taunting the crusaders.


Standing alongside four other militants wearing headscarves and masks to disguise themselves, al-Zarqawi then kills Berg.


Al-Zarqawi is thought to be in Iraq, operating his own terrorist network, known simply as the "Zarqawi network." A specialist in poisons, he is thought to have extensive ties across the militant Islamic movement and is considered an ally of Osama bin Laden (news - web sites).


As recently as March, U.S. officials said al-Zarqawi's practice was not to make taped public pronouncements or take credit for attacks. However, in the last five weeks, he has increased his public profile with at least three recordings, including Berg's beheading.


Al-Zarqawi is believed to be behind well over a dozen high-profile attacks in Iraq, and many other acts of violence, which have killed hundreds.

LONDON (Reuters) - Piers Morgan, editor of London's Daily Mirror newspaper, has been sacked over publication of pictures of alleged abuse of Iraqi prisoners by British troops that proved to be fake.

"The Board of Trinity Mirror has decided that it would be inappropriate for Piers Morgan to continue in his role as Editor of the Daily Mirror and he will therefore be stepping down with immediate effect," the newspaper said in a statement on Friday.

Despite mounting expert criticism of the pictures, and a statement by the Government on Thursday that they were fake, Morgan insisted until the end that his stories of abuse by British troops were accurate.

"The pictures accurately illustrated the reality about the appalling conduct of some British troops," he said.

But on Friday, the newspaper's owners Trinity Mirror threw in the towel and threw out their editor.

"The Daily Mirror published in good faith photographs which it absolutely believed were genuine images of British soldiers abusing an Iraqi prisoner," the statement said.

"However there is now sufficient evidence to suggest that these pictures are fakes and that the Daily Mirror has been the subject of a calculated and malicious hoax.

"The Daily Mirror therefore apologises unreservedly for publishing the pictures and deeply regrets the reputational damage done to the QLR (Queens Lancashire Regiment) and the Army in Iraq," the statement added.

Morgan's ousting came hard on the heels of a full frontal attack by the QLR, accusing the newspaper of being a recruiting poster for al Qaeda and urging the flamboyant editor to step down.

The Mirror had campaigned vigorously against the invasion of Iraq.

"It's time that the ego of one editor is measured against the life of the soldier," Brigadier Geoff Sheldon told reporters.

Parece que não são só as forças armadas americanas que têm de reavaliar os seus procedimentos, muitos meios de comunicação social também. O problema é que enquanto os primeiros estão a fazê-lo, os segundos não acredito de o façam.
Esta semana cometi o erro de ver um noticiário da Al-Jazeera em português (perdão TVI) e aquilo é propaganda do mais baixo nível e paranóia anti-americana em último grau !
